As of earlier this week, I have been laid off. I had been with them the last 11 years, I have nothing bad to say. It's been a good 11 years.
I now find myself in the strange place of looking for a job, feels kind of strange at point.
Decided to take a road trip to visit with my folks and unwind a bit, wife and daughter are at home.
I am currently sitting outside at the hotel next to their gas fire pit enjoying a bowl of FM Cellar.
I'll start the job search after the weekend, I deserve it!

I'm sorry to hear your news. It's good that you're taking a moment for yourself before beginning the search, and nice to have an enjoyable smoke. I work in a project based field, so I've been laid off around 200+ times. It's rarely fun to search for a job, but sometimes it leads to much better things.

Exchef... What line of work do you do now? Left the restaurant industry and went into tech. Network security, sysadmin, support stuffs. I have a couple lines in the water so to speak, I am going to enjoy some days off, a few good bowls and then get looking until something turns for me. I have some very good connections that I'll be putting to work for me. ExChef

I'm sorry to hear that you're unemployed, Chef. Sounds like your trip is a good way to unwind before starting the search for your next opportunity. While no one likes to be laid off, my experience in this regard is that it kept me from stagnating and always led to something better. I hope it does for you and your family too. Raising a pipe with and to you.

Through 60 years of work, (I started at 8 years old), I many such situations, but they led me to better opportunities 90% of the time. The last job was a dream position with the best company anyone could ever want to work for. Took me to retirement, and paid for it too. There will be great things for you.

You're talented, and nowadays the world has changed, no job for life, reading your post you've got a good attitude. Enjoy the off time and I'm sure you will find something. The reason I'm saying this I live in SW Louisiana and I'm bombarded with job offers on my email everyday, so the job market must be lacking people. Again Good Luck.

Thank you all for the good and kind words. I will land on my feet, might take a little time but will. For now, I have lines in the water more to go on Monday and then we'll see if the bait is good enough. I truly enjoyed that bowl of FM Cellar last night, wish it had been a tad warmer. ExChef

Sad news, however, glad to hear you’re taking a little break. In your tech field you should be able to bounce back better than before!

Feel sorry for myself? I do, to an extent. Be angry at the company? I have too much respect for those that were left behind. So, I cast a few lines. wait for the nibbles. ExChef

Keep looking, that's a job unto itself.
Your attitude is great - I've been there and you are handling much better than I did.
