I smoked my first bowl this morning and I was pleasantly surprised. I’m going to need to do some more research before I review it.

Just wanted to mention we had over 100 posts and 1,000 views on last months thread. I'd like to encourage even more people to participate this month. I'll be enjoying my first bowl of amphora tonight.

waiting for my first bowl -- it is threatening rain and the humidity is as thick as soup. hoping it storms and cools off enough to sit out this evening like it did yesterday.

I'll be enjoying my first bowl of amphora tonight. This was a great idea. It gives me an opportunity and incentive to try blends that I otherwise may never have tried. It is nice to see what other people think of them, too. BTW, if anyone needs a reminder. So far: May: Orlik Golden Sliced June: Amphora Original Blend July : H+H White Knight August: Peterson Sweet Killarney

+1 to that. Great idea. I'm going to place my order this week, hopefully. I'm in Belfast every day next week so I'll pop into the local B&M and see if they have it first...I won't hold my breath.

Good luck Legend Lover.
I got my pouch in the mail this afternoon along with next months blend and some other bulk. My first bowl will be tomorrow. I had a busy evening and then had to jar up the bulk.
I like the whole idea of this. The different views on last months blend actually helped me realize what I was tasting when I couldn't pin point it myself.
Kudos for the idea and I hope more jump in on this!

If only I had known you were in Belfast we could have met up for a Guinness last July I got married in Edinburgh and then went to Galway but we spent a night in Belfast.

I've had a couple of pipes of Amphora Original Blend but haven't had a chance to sit down and smoke it and think about it. I have noticed a lot of chocolate so far, but I want to take some time and try to figure out what I am tasting beyond that. More to follow

Ordered a pouch today! At first glance, I thought that said "Ordered a PIZZA today" and I wondered why you posted that?

I had 2 bowls of this today. The first was in a cob mid morning, The 2nd was in my Grabow freehand later on tonight. I let both of them dry out for about 15-20 minutes, the tobacco wasn't "wet" but it did have some moisture to it.
With an amateur pipe tobacco palate, I pick up chocolate, or cocoa maybe. It was kind of hard to miss. There's also a nuttiness to it. There are some other things going on in there too and I hope to figure it out as I smoke a few more bowls throughout the month.
I enjoyed it a lot more in my bigger bowl than I did in the cob. It seemed to have a better, or more pronounced, flavor. Overall, both bowls were rather smooth and burned a lot slower than most of my other tobacco. Didn't experience any bite.
Good pick, I like this one.

I finally had time to sit and try to figure out what I am tasting.
I gravity packed my no-name bent egg. The pouch has an earthy smell with hint of chocolate and fig? Not really sure.
When I first lit it, the predominant flavor was chocolate. It left a subtle lingering sweetness on the tip of my tongue and lips.
About half way through the chocolate fades a bit, but it is still there, as is the sweetness. I start to taste a little nutty taste and maybe a hint of spice that I can't place. It is much better as the chocolate starts to fade (not that it was bad at first). Toward the end, I get just a very little bit of citrus and some earthiness to go with the nuttiness and hint of chocolate.
It is a lot more complex than I thought when I wasn't paying as much attention.
It didn't bite at all. This pipe gurgles easily but I didn't have to run a pipe cleaner through it during the smoke.
I think this is very good.
Good choice, Sam.

I have been smoking Amphora Original Blend (Brown) for about 4 years after purchasing a pouch in the Dominican Republic. The chocolate is very noticeable. There is some sweetness (molasses?) and the burley nutty flavor is present. It burns well when smoked at a moderate pace and I get no moisture in the bowl if I let it dry a few minutes before lighting up. I enjoy the flavor of a few sips prior to settin it afire!

I feel like this blend has a lot going for it but just misses that full seal of approval by being a little to general. I too get a lot of chocolate but it also is very heavy in that aromatic perfume taste, which I don't really care for. The blend has a great room note though. I found it to be a little difficult to get lit at first but it could have just been me. Overall, I'd give this a solid 3.5 out of 5. I'd smoke it again and since it is on sale right now, I may pick up a few pouches to let age.
