Imagine you are approaching your birthday. Your significant other asks you what you want? What would you pick?
I am a pie guy! Fruit pie rubarb was the one I got most growing up or apple. Any fruit will work.
My wife is a cake person and my son goes for cheese cake. So what do you lke best?

I have to admit I’ve always had a sweet tooth for baked goods......so a homemade cookie, cake and pie guy!
In all honesty I’d take a good homemade strawberry/apple rhubarb pie with a side piece of light Hungarian cheesecake with no toppings.

happy with whatever person celebrating decides. Am "easy" in that type of thing. A cream filled donut...happy with that.
Old one concerning math class. Teacher: "pi r square". Wise guy kid: "Wrong you are. pi are round, cake r square" (mostly).

I can make a decent cake and a so-so pie so I'd pick pie (pay in Spanish). Now if I could get a steak and kidney pie followed by carrot cake I'd be aces.

Pie all the way for me. I don't mind cake but I'd take an apple pie any day over a cake.
That said, savory pies I don't do.

I'm very fond of both cake and pie, but if called to flip a coin I'd pick heads for pie...

Well, as much as I like either it's a moot point for me because I'm diabetic, or as they around these parts, I've got the diabetes. I get to have a little sweet stuff now and then, and my wife makes a great sugarless cheese cake using stevia. When I was a kid I remember my grandma's rhubarb pipe, loved the sweet - tart combination of it.

Definitely pie over cake. The best part of pie is the crust; the worst part of cake is the frosting. Any fruit will do; apple pie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream is awesome. Not rhubarb for me though, and anyway it's a vegetable
Great, now I wish I had some pie.

Both. German chocolate cake or carrot cake. Key lime pie or good cheesecake. I also love raisin cream pie, buttermilk pie and gooseberry pie.

I love our homemade layered cake (I do not know the correct English term). The first layer covered with Lemon Curd, the next layer covered with Nutella, no covering on the top and the whole thing covered with whipped cream. Lemon Curd and Nutella go very well together.
(Now I'm hungry).

(Now I'm hungry). I lived in Europe for a few years and have been to Denmark. Lovely place and warm wonderful people. The cake you described must be popular in Denmark, because I had it with a family I was visiting in Denmark. Back in ‘89 I was on the road traveling overland throughout Europe for almost 60 days. I traveled by Landrover...they could handle any terrain! Met allot of great people in my travels. When I visited Poland I took the time to visit the death camps....HORRIFIC and still gives me chills thinking about the times back then!

Strawberry pie, coconut cream pie, white coconut cake, or... Cheesecake Factory Blackout Cake (real cake, not icky cheesecake) with ice cream, chocolate sauce, and whipped cream.
Whatever it is, I'll eat the hell out of it, a la, "Hey great, what's everyone else gonna have?" Except cheesecake. You all can have my share.

Thank you very much for your kind words about our country and us. Yes, the layer cake was, is and always be very popular here and it's available in countless variants. It's always served at children's birthday parties and at my birthday. I love the stuff; of which my waistline is living proof.
I've never visited any of the death camps in Poland nor the concentration camps i Germany, but I've read a great deal of books about them. Horrible beyond description. My father was a police officer, but luckily he was on holiday when the Germans round up the Danish police on September the 19th 1944, but 2000 of his colleagues were sent to Buchenwald and from there on to Neuengamme. The rest went underground.
We do get around, don't we..? From layer cakes to death camps.

Pie all the way. Growing up, there were too many birthdays around mine and it ruined cake for me. In the last 20 years I've only ate a slice of cake 5 time, maybe 6. I just cant do it.
Give me a pie and I'll make that thing disappear without a problem.
+1 on key lime for sure

Pie ... more specifically, Fruit Cobbler served warm with real vanilla bean ice cream. A shot of Espresso on the side would complete the nirvana!
