...been thinking about this for a while...
I agree with the member rankings up to "Senior Member". "Pro Member" seems out of place.
"Pro", which is an abbreviation of "professional", indicates that one is making money from their actions.
Are our "Pro Members" making money from their posts?
Perhaps something along the lines of... "Master" or "Journeyman" or "Royal".
Thoughts?

I agree with you Dramatwist. The same thought crossed my mind when I saw that earlier.

To be honest, I don't pay much attention to the trivial bull! I must admit I feel the same way. All members of this forum are equal, only the Moderators & Admin are above us.

I was simply questioning the designation as a writer and language geek.

To be honest, I don't pay much attention to the trivial bull! I’m not sure why but I’m more interested in how long someone has been a member of the forum and the last time they posted. However if that information isn’t right in front of me I usually don’t try to search it out. I’m too lazy and when all is said and done none of it seems relevant or changes anything. But I’m a new member and don’t know very much. Maybe it matters to others. Maybe one day it will matter to me. AJ

Titles are only relevant to those those whose life is made around the said title(s).

While I agree that "pro" is an abbreviation for "professional", it's also loosely/informally used (at least by me) as a designation for someone who's very skilled, knowledgeable, or experienced at something. As such, "Pro Member" works for me, although "Master Member" has a nice ring to it.

Can I have the custom title of "Village Idiot" please? Justin? Strictly speaking, I believe that title is reserved for politicians.

Like Dramatwist, I have made my living by the written word. And the word "pro" does seem odd in this context. Sherlock Holmes insisted that he was an amateur--and he was, since he was not on the payroll like Lestrade. I do not equate "amateur" with unskilled. But I agree with @walkman, "Master Member" has a nice ring to it. As an aside, I also do not equate post count with expertise.

Titles don’t mean much to me personally, but I do see your point. What ever is decided won’t make me change how I feel about those affected. I consider myself a starting over again new pipe smoker.
This time around I am doing things much differently. I am enjoying my hobby more. The blends I have tried are better tasting to me than the ones I had tried before.
I am picking pipes that suit my habits better.
I like the conversations that get started on this forum so I am happy.

Color Bars would eliminate the interpretation of language/titles. They could also be underlined to designate a members financial contribution to the site.

...lest anyone think I care about it much... not so. I just tend to see the world around me through language. I'm quite happy to remain a "senior" member... fits my age!

Hang on a sec, am I NOT getting paid for my posts???
I'm a bit late into this conversation, what with it being 2am here, but my youngest has me up and I can't get back to sleep yet.
It was mentioned later in this conversation than I had expected, but the word, 'professional' does convey a level of expertise to me that can be misleading.
Case in point, I have now reached the dizzy heights of Pro status, but my level of expertise is minimal. All it means, in my case, is that I'm a bletherer... Unless pro is short for 'proflic poster', in which case that makes sense.
Since the rankings are solely based on the number of posts, perhaps an alternative way of categorising members could be adopted. But is this a feature of the forum or can the administrators define these categories?
Regardless, if it's based on the number of posts then it will still give little information on a member's experience in this hobby...unless there can be a section in the profile section that allows us to detail this fact.
