I too am a Drooler.........like a fricken St. Bernard. Can't stand at the buffer without it literally running down my chin and on my neck. So nowadays I just don't smoke when working but, surprisingly I can smoke while on the tractor without even a thought of drool. But, I also swallow a lot so as to keep any build up from taking place. Funny, I read years ago in a book put out by Weber pipes that the over abundance of saliva in ones mouth would dissipate in time when smoking a pipe. It's been over 25 years and it's still like some one left the spigot on. Reckon that just goes to show ya we aint all the same. Some of us just need a dentists suction pump when smoking. Lol. I'm glad I'm not the only one. When I clench it's like a tap is turned on. I guess that's three of us that will admit to drooling.I just think about smoking and eating and the waterworks start.

I've been a drooly smoker since I started.. even when I smoked nails I'd drool on them. I try to clench when doing anything and end up with a damp beard. I dont get many gurgles anymore but I also have learned to let the pipe hang if its so inclined.

I like both straight and bent. Love a full bent when I'm sitting and reading. If I get some gurgle, I just separate the stem and run in a thick cleaner. All my pipes have a snug, but not really tight fit, and I've been taking them apart while smoking or just after with no problem for 50 years. I've not been doing this for anywhere near as long, but I, too, have had no issues. I'm careful.

Years ago I’d drool if I kept the end of a good cigar in my mouth for roughly two hours after smoking.....just chewing ever so slightly on the fine tobacco and enjoying the palate after taste. Never drooled from a pipe.

I have that classic story of growing up with an old man on my street who smoked a pipe. His were always bent and all my life its what I've found to be aesthetically pleasing. Something about the curves and form but overall, it's just what I like.
My bag of MM cobs came with some straight ones and they are fine, just not as pleasing to me in the looks department.

Straight MM stems can be easily bent to suit by immersion in boiling water for 30-60 seconds. So if you want a moderate bend to a straight cob, just dip and shape the stem to your liking.

I had read about that and thought about doing it one day. As I'm new I use them from time to time trying to see if its something I might grow into.

I don't know for sure but I think memory has a tremendous effect on my choices. For example until I as about 44yo I drank Jack Black and thats what I drank, it's what I was conditioned to think it was in most of the movies I saw and my Dad and Uncles drink it Sinatra drank it..... IT WAS WHAT MEN DRANK!!!! At 52yo I have discovered the finer things in life and that skunk piss old # 7 aint it. Perhaps you also have good memories of the old man and his bent pipe and you also may think this is how it's supposed to be.

I don't believe that aesthetics is an acquired trait. Some forms of art you like others you don't. It's not a right or wrong issue. If you like the slight or more bent pipes, cool. You know what filters to use when searching for new ones. The straight ones you get in the grab bags you can always set aside for curious friends, trading,or gifting. Heck, you can hang them around the windshield of your car like little wine bottles.

I don't like straight pipes as the leverage of weight bothers me, and I am not a clencher, so I am always holding my pipe. That way my arm is more tucked in. When I am in a reclining chair, I can rest a bent pipe on my chest.

Out of the 100+ pipes I own I have only one full bent pipe, a BBB "WARWICK" shell briar which I got back in the early '80s. The rest of my pipes are probably 30/70 1/8th bent ( bent bulldogs ) to straight stemmed pipes with over 1/2 of those being saddle bits. Back when I was buying Edward's pipes I bought one of their "Husky" seires OOM PAUL's and for me it gurggle'd from the start so I traded it for a Husky st. Billiard which I still have! Guess I'd have to say I'm a straight guy

Mine's bent. Wait ... what are we talking about? It’s a pipe that always stood at “ attention “ now “ at ease “!

...not a clencher (or a drooler) so I prefer straight pipes. I have a couple of nice full-bents... those usually get smoked during the holidays...

Maybe it's mind over matter and if you don't have a mind, it don't matter. 😂 Anyway, I much prefer bent over straight (comfort, etc) and in my head they smoke better than straights.
