I don't know if Justin envisioned what this forum has become... I suspect he might have... but, for a guy like me, who has multiple health issues and is not comfortable in a crowd, this place is wonderful. I can log in and count on warm feelings, good humor and camaraderie. Even though we will most likely never meet in person, I consider you all as true friends.

Dramatwist, I think you have just said what we all pretty much feel. This forum is like close friends, for a change.

I don't like people in general today. There was a time when men wore suits and women dresses but alas that was a very long time ago.
When I look at people traveling on airplanes and the close proximity when seated, totally disgusts me. People today are just plain nasty (in general).
When I think about staying in a hotel, it disgusts me. Even a Hilton is only slightly better in their overall clientele.
I avoid people especially during flu season as it's detrimental to my health.
I am fortunate in that I don't have to fly or use a hotel or come in constant contact with people. Thank God.
My point, it's nice to chat here with people who share my hobby and enjoyment.

Glad I hear so many positive points about this forum, for me in the past 6 plus weeks it’s been a real life saver....mentally with all my medical issues. Some warm hearted, caring people are here amongst us, for that I’m extremely thankful ♥️❤️♥️❤️♥️❤️👍👍 I know for a fact there is one member here that has also been on another forum and this gentleman participates here more than I’ve ever seen him prior, that alone tells me the quality of the people that are true members of this great forum. “ MAY IT NEVER CHANGE “!,

I second your sentiments. Every day here is like waking up on a fresh Bayou Morning, having decided NOT to get a Prince Albert, after a long night in Carter Hall, arguing with Three Nuns about the merits of being Presbyterian. Or something like that.

I have enjoyed this forum as well. This is the only pipe forum I belong to. I peek in on another forum once a week or so. It seems like everyone there enjoys making smartass comments, lots of "inside" jokes--like they want it to be a private club. I enjoy the occasional smartass comment and make one every now and then myself, but it is uninformative and oppressive at the other site.
Sorry I droned on so long there.... I enjoy the company of you folks here.....

Justin has chimed in on threads like this before, stating that it's the people here who make the difference.
That's obviously the case... Forum software can't make this place a nicer place to be, but I think the mods do a great job in keeping this place the way it is.
One of the best things about here is the way threads can go way off-topic and yet still be entertaining, and nobody seems to mind. Great stuff people.

just adding my .02 worth. Just a plain super awesome way to meet, make new friends & carry on.
(Now to get somebody to come to my house for a day, bring a camera & hopefully teach me the rudiments of using same). Not likely!

I like it here. So far everyone seems to be friendly and accepting of old grumpy geezers like myself. Now if Jim would send me some of his Rotary as promised I’ be happy as a clam. Lol!

I love this place. It's the first "forum" I've stayed in for more than a week in over 15 years. The people here are great. No one gets all butt hurt over disagreements or threads getting off topic. It's a very kind, welcoming atmosphere. It's not full of know-it-alls and told-you- . Just a good group of people from all over the world, from many walks of life that all enjoy the same thing(s). I'm an introvert, I dont do "people." Honestly, I dont like people... but here it's different. I check in several times during the day. Often times I can find something to lift me up a little bit when stress is getting to me. Even if it's kind words from one member to another. I started here with a crappy pipe and some pretty awful tobacco. That changed.... quickly... "Y'all" created a monster! For that, I am thankful. I'm glad to be part of "The Patch!"

Came over here from that other forum after about 4 years. Found some folks that had gone from there over here and it's been nice re-up some aquaintances so to speak. I especially like how folks seem to stay on topic over here for the most part. Had become not the case over there and I got tired of every ones dirty laundry! If folks don't mind another grumpy old dude I think I'll stay !

The Briar Patch is a warm, friendly place to hang out and converse with others that share all things about piping. I am happy that Jim Inks led me here.

william,I'm sorry for the following. I noticed no one said anything about Intelligent Conversation. Not an inside joke by any means. And I learn some thing new for you folks every day.I like the kidding around, and the manner in which folks who can get derailed, return to the topic and add meaningful content. Dramatwist said it best You folks are True Friends.

Dramatwist says..."I can log in and count on warm feelings, good humor and camaraderie." I think most of us here feel that way too...or for the most part...Just wondering if that same set of feelings would transfer over in personally meeting-up with those of us who are close geographically? Several on the forum have brought the subject up over the years...Anyway just thinking...

One thing I like about here is that everyone seems to get into the conversation in a friendly non combative way.Great place to hang out for this old pipe smoker.I don't even have to wear a suit and tie to do it.

This is quite good. I suffer from a lot of health problems too, so I am often up way late into the early morning hours because of chronic pain-induced insomnia. Coming here for ideas on tobaccos and pipes to buy has been quite a nice refugef or me. And the camaraderie, as you suggested, can't be beat.

Peterd, AJ and I meet up roughly every 6 weeks, I’m look forward too our next get together already! Last time we spent over 5 hours together, the time just flew by, we have much in common and I could not have found a better friend here in NC👍 Hopefully on our next meet up we can spend more time together, honestly I feel I know AJ for many years, I believe he feels the same. Looking forward as well for our breakfast together prior to some wonderful communication while enjoying a number of pipes together. He’s what I truly consider one-in-a Million 👍👍👍

I'm not sure what I would have done without this forum. When I started smoking it was out of a $10 pipe with some black and mild tobacco. Oh, how things have changed.

As a newbie, I can say this is the only forum I post on with any regularity. The people here are just great and the conversations polite and peaceful.

It's pretty cool that you can convey a thought on here and nobody gets butthurt too bad and if they do they keep it pretty quiet and it never seems to last long. many thanks to the creators of this site.

...interesting thought, Peter... I'm not sure... Martin, I’m living proof that personal meet ups work out well👍👍👍 Wether it’s 2 or 22 I believe we’d all have a great time! I think it could work well... The only difference is that in a group you have extroverts and introverts, and people who chat a lot and people who are less chatty. On a forum, that isn't an issue. people can contribute in a conversation without being cut off, or others dominating the conversion. Makes for a fairer chat. You may not get that in a group meeting. But you also lose something by not having that personal interaction. Tell you what, let's all head round to my new place in Lady Margaret's woodshed and find out.

Here's AJ at work:
Jim, just send me a dozen tins of Rotary. Maybe then your nightmares about being pursued by a giant clam will cease. The fear of losing your treasure is becoming too burdensome for you. You don’t sleep at nights and you chain smoke, besides you don’t ever smoke any Rotary. Best you rid yourself of that demon tobacco Rotary and send it to me. I’ll smoke it on a regular basis and, out of the goodness of my heart, I let you know how much I like it. Giving me the tobacco will allow you, for once in your life, achieve something worthwhile. Jim, do yourself a favor, send me a dozen tins of Rotary today. Maybe you’ll feel better about yourself. AJ
