There was a two year foreign language requirement at my alma mater. I was shocked to find this out or I may not have chosen it. I tried French but that side of my brain is weak. I'm a numbers guy. I discovered Latin, a dead language with no meaning whatsoever - Perfect! I aced all four semesters which greatly inflated my overall GPA; furthermore, I learned more about English, a Germanic language, studying the mother of all Romantic languages than I ever could spending time with the former. After learning to put together sentence constructs in Latin, English was minor league which served me well throughout my professional career. Reckon the next round is on me. That's Kentuckian y'all. Father was South African, who all speak English and Afrikaans, mother was Welsh but not one of the remaining few who speak it, but she taught French for twenty years and German for eight. I was born in Manchester, so English. I'm the only damn member of my family who speaks just one language (plus Texan blue collar redneck).

My father was from Ohio, my mother from WV, and everyone says I sound like I'm from PA, which I find insulting. I got a couple years of French in high school and a smidgen of German from Hogan's Heroes. I also speak Marine, enough to tell the Squids they can find the chaplain in the head. They never batted an eye, either, lol. Do pretty well in sarcasm and innuendo when the mood strikes.
