Thanks, Ted. Got stones but this looks like a good alternative. Been a while since I ground some steel. The real benefit for me is the speed it sharpens knives, the motor doesn’t turn very fast, so it isn’t like you are putting it on a carpenter’s belt sander. I am admittedly lazy, and to me the mundane chores suck. But then again, I tend to procrastinate on knife sharpening, and play musical chairs with all the knives until they all need attention. I sharpened all my knives at the speed of a bottle of beer with this new one. Years ago when I worked at a meat company, an old Hispanic butcher had a leg powered treadle to run the circular stone... when he was done sharpening a knife, it glided through meat like butter. There is a Ken Onion version of that sharpener also: www.amazon.com/Work-Sharp-WSKTS-KO-Sharpener-Edition/dp/B00EJ9CQKA

Of course I’d care, it’s my responsibility! Plus, I’d lose my Federal carry license if the person has a prior felony record. I only asked cos you told me to ask. That... is pretty darn funny! You teed that one up nicely, LL!

I feel the same about my 200 plus knives!! Back in the late 70’s while living in Georgia I went hunting for wild boar, they are “ nasty sob’s “ , so besides my 30/30 I decided to carry one of my 1911’s on my belt and a small 380 on my ankle holster. A hunting buddy asked “ you mind if I carry your 380 “? I told him straight out “ anyone that has the responsibility and license to carry a pistol would never lend a pistol to a friend or a family member, it ain’t happening “!! He was ticked off, but ask me if I care. For all I know he could have been a prior convicted felon! do you care? Thank's for noticing trailboss. @lonecoyote - see above.

LL, “ask me if I care is an American expression “, used for years...meaning “ you think I really give a $hit “! It’s not a question, it’s a fact.

When my blade gets dull I use Shell Lumber or Home Depot to supply a new Xacto knife or cardboard cutter...

Y'all are more hard core than I am. Most of the time that I use my knife is when I am opening a box of paper, or an envelope. The blade is a little more than 1".
When the tool no longer cuts like I want it to, I sharpen it. I would use a very fine grit belt sander to sharpen it. Turning tools are done on a bench grinder.

From one of the Amazon reviewers: I agree, most of my knife use is cutting shrink wrap and strapped pallet loads, so for my purposes it works well... the belts that come with it are pretty fine, but they have varying grits available for replacement.

Gents, not to hyjack, but is there a thread on knives? I would like to get a nice blade for curly block and plugs but didn't want to start a new thread.

This is what I use to sharpen the Opinel #09 blade... Soak the stone completely for approximately 5min or so, and you're ready to sharpen away!

Purchased a 6" Ulu with the matching 8" platter. Now I am prepared for pugs and if I have to skin a seal. Thanks for the tips! BTW I use a sushi stone that made for carbon blades. Wet sanding. Great for finishing the edge.

I’ve used this system for over 25 years and it’s found in some of the finest restaurants for the chef and their staff to keep their cutlery in top working condition, worth every penny. banjo

Strop ^^^^^^^ your knives with an old leather belt strapped to a banister rail using honing oil.........you’ll get an even razor sharp edge. Providing your blades edge is not completely dull.

The tri-hone is a really great tool, but the user needs to be on his game with the correct angle.

No argument there trailboss, after getting proficient with the tri-stone, one can hear by the sound the blade makes going through the sharpening when it’s time to change stones and stop altogether, once you have your edge keeping it ready is easy, the tri-stone gets the edge straightened out again once it’s out of kilter. banjo

As a word of caution...if you decide to wear your belt at a later date, your trousers may slip down your legs if you don't get the oil off first.

I was unaware you have only one belt. Also anpiece of scrap leather you can purchase cheap, glue the leather to an inexpensive piece of thin hardwood, you now have a stropping board, which I much prefer. Paddy can buy a cheap wooden paddle......even rhymes!!
