Interesting, as I had a 1948 Willy's Wagon with a Falcon 6 swapped in. Drove like a tank and didn't like going over 50 mph. They looked cool, but they were an uncivilized handful to drive. They were geared low for off-road use and the four-cylinder engine was not meant for speed. They finally put a small six cylinder in them. Yes, 50 MPH was about it back then. Leaf spring suspension all around, kind of stiff. Most were a three-speed non-synchro with a two speed transfer case. Good enough for rural conditions. Yes, that's true. I was driving city when I owned it. Did appreciate it in Winter when the snow flew.

Love wagons, but what this world needs is more shooting brakes. Think sports car has an affair with a station wagon.

I admit I had to look up Volvo's P-1800 wagon, but that would fit the description of a shooting brake. One day I'll invest in a picture hosting account and start posting pics of stuff so that it's not all left to the imagination.

Nothing to invest in, use Imgur itโs free!! Look it up on YouTube and watch a few videos. Youโll be posting pictures in a day or two. Use a computer or mobile device. As for me, 90% of the time I use my iPad. Have fun๐๐

My family had a Ford LTD station wagon. Used to ride in the back and look out the back window to see where we had been. My family drove that car everywhere. Best part of the car was the CB radio my dad installed. Who needs cell phones when you can talk in code.

The one I really wanted, other than the Willys, was the Peugeot 504 Wagon. A rugged wagon, popular in Africa and the Middle East, powered by a great I-4 Diesel. 4-Speed tranny. Almost bought one in 1976 but ended up with a Dodge van. host an image

That's a Peugeot wagon. Everything about Peugeot sucked except for the shock absorbers.

This one belongs to the wife and its a blast to drive. It's a lil hard for me to get in and out of but other than that no problems what so ever. And it just annihilates Mustangs and Camaros!

This is what I drive and I consider it to be basically a station wagon, All stock except for the windows (notice the windshield is tinted all the way to the hood) and 1000 watt amp in the back pushing a 10" woofer.

Always garaged when not used. Waxed every other month and washed every weekend. The car rusted from the inside to the outside, I sanded down the hood to check what was going on...it was an old steel billboard with the original advertisement before Fiat attempted to spray the car a beautiful canary yellow. Glad you have no issues with your Fiat Pup, a friend from NY, his wife is not as lucky. Hope yours lasts for many years without major issues๐๐๐

I had two friends in the 1970s who drove them and they seemed to be reliable. Then again, there must be a reason why we do not see them very often.

Then again, there must be a reason why we do not see them very often. Back in 1983 our government asked Peugeot, Citroen and Fiat politely to close all dealerships and would no longer allow the cars to be imported into the USA. Years later a similar situation with Yugo, thatโs in a category all by itself!!!

I agree 100% that Fiats were crapola and I guess we got lucky. But I gotta tell ya that this lil red Abarth weighs 2500lbs and has a turbo charged 185hp 4 banger is a handful to drive.

It is a cute car, glad both you and your wife are enjoying it so much๐๐. The Abarth is the high end type of exhaust system used on your model. On my Mini Minor 1000 and 1976 Triumph TR-6 I installed Abarth exhausts, great back pressure and increased hp!! Also they sound throaty.

I had a Cooper countryman loaner while my car was in the shop, if I goosed the throttle, the lightweight car felt like I was doing wheelstands when the front end lifted up.
I felt like I was in a death trap watching texting commuters in the rear view mirror though. Years ago, I saw a Smart car get rear ended, and the guy got off lucky only being crippled for life. For me, there gets a point where the cars are too small.

While living in Europe besides the Yamaha 250 scooter I owned ( ALL motor vehicles are expensive throughout Europe ) my first car was a one year old Fiat 500, also known as the Fiat cinquecento. I know, another Fiat, but the dealer gave me a 2 year bumper to bumper warranty and I can trade in anytime without taking a beating! In Europe you donโt get a car loan at a bank, the dealership holds the note. I kept the car for roughly 5 months, the car was so small that I was able to fold back the sunroof, stand up and drive the car. The car was made well, just to small so I traded up and took less then a $300.00 loss, not bad๐๐ Petrol ( gasoline ) at the time was just over the equivalent of $6.00 per U.S. gallon!!!

If fading memory serves, the official vehicle for ground tasks on the Sky King Ranch was a Station Wagon . . . . a 1956 Chrysler SW perhaps?

People still refer to the sportier(smaller) cars like Subaru and VW models as wagons. Europe gets the good models though. They call them estate wagons.

The Scion is built on a Corolla. It feels pretty roomy on the inside. With the seat down it can hold a huge amount of stuff. It fits into half a parking spot. I don't want to think about being in a wreck in it. I was watching for my wife who was coming home from work in her 1500 lb 1975 Honda Civic. As she was turning into the driveway, a guy in an Oldsmobile hit her right in her door. I don't know how she wasn't seriously injured. Probably helped that she taught aerobic dance every day and she was in great shape. A miracle though, for sure.

My aunt and cousin both drove Fiats in the late '50 and early '60s. As my cousin explained it, "Now you Fiat and now you don't".

When living in LA, people would complain about that while sitting in the passenger seat up front. I carried an inflated beach ball in the back and suggested they place it on their lap. End of complaint.
