The Scion is built on a Corolla. It feels pretty roomy on the inside. With the seat down it can hold a huge amount of stuff. It fits into half a parking spot. I don't want to think about being in a wreck in it. I was watching for my wife who was coming home from work in her 1500 lb 1975 Honda Civic. As she was turning into the driveway, a guy in an Oldsmobile hit her right in her door. I don't know how she wasn't seriously injured. Probably helped that she taught aerobic dance every day and she was in great shape. A miracle though, for sure. I think the design of cars today is so far superior to the cars of yesteryear, my car has 10 airbags. Also the way the vehicles are engineered today with crumble zones. Years ago I’d respond to a signal 16 ( vehicle accident ) and find part of the engine on the lap of either the driver or passenger. Today they are engineered to buckle and fall towards the ground, thank God.

I'll just leave this here, but don't ask me any questions about it, because I don't know anything!

Well, that's a mind bener. A serious VW Van collector would be dismayed though, that the builder used a vintage split window van.

Whatever it is there's a lot of very skillful metal work that went into sloping that roof down to meet the donor car

What would have been real cool is if the vehicle was designed to drive the Porsche side forward, or even reversible👍

Looks to me like a bus front end welded to the back end of a Kharmann Ghia. People do this kind of thing with VW busses alot.

A proper estate or a classic station wagon. This one^^^^what a beast that must have been. I really miss the old SS's. They were some gorgeous cars.

I guessed Ghia cause of the relationship, but the fenders aren't flared. Porche does have that relationship too I guess. VW owns them now, don't they? Audi. Lots of that stuff.

I go down to the big VW meet H2O every year and have wanted one since the first time I saw one. I've seen some really cool ones restored. Probably more reliable too.

The old VWs were very reliable. I bought my Ghia used and it had bad electrical problems. I was working 100+ hours a week and just didn't have time to get it fixed. I have traveled all over Mexico in a Bug, raced them in mud races and all in all I have had great experiences with them.

My first vehicle was a Jeep Cherokee, today it's called an SUV but my registration said station wagon . Miss that thing, 4.0L straight 6, still got 20 mpg being over 20 years old, would go almost anywhere.

I miss driving a stick shift preferably 4 on the floor with a Hurst shifter. Loved my old 68 Impala coup with the big engine and a low rear end...it was sleek with the white paint job and gold/tan seats....memories. sigh
Hope your day is a good one, Ted...after the lab/Dr./whatever is on your schedule that you are not thrilled about going to.

Had a 78 Cherokee Chief Station wagon, with Quadratrac, used to load kids, wife, fishing gear , so loaded kids were only eyeballs from outside of Wagon. Was on the Atchafalaya freeway and along comes a Lamborghini, boys 11 and 9 go ape 💩, he noticies them and runs beside , I’m doing 75,mph the boys are still going crazy, I say to them now watch, he spools up, it lifts up like a spider and boom, zoom it’s out of sight in a blink. That’s all the boys talked about on that trip. I kept that Chief and gave it to my oldest son after he graduated, sorry to say he trashed it.

My family had an early 80s Buick wagon with wood paneling. I remember driving it down the freeway one day in a bad storm. The wipers were functioning as normal when all of a sudden the driver side wiper jutted forward out from the windshield and shot off to the side never to be seen again. I had to drive the rest of the way with my head out the window.

My folks had a 57 Chevy SW back when I was a young chap. They used it for transporting kids to my mother's kindergarten. Later, they replaced it with a 72 Ford SW. I often considered buying one of the Dodge Magnums back when they came out, but never did.

Remember when a square back car with a tailgate was called a Station Wagon. Now days no one calls the vehicles they used to call Station Wagons SUVs !! Part of that is changing tastes, but the government is also a major factor. Government mandates to manufacturers require certain fuel efficiency averages. Those mandates are much more forgiving for “light trucks” than cars or station wagons, As a result, there are vast amounts of money on the line. Anything that can be classified as an SUV instead of a wagon saves the manufacturers tons of money.
