I am not in the market to buy anymore pipes, but I got a tip that a storage auction guy had acquired some pipes...you guys have to admit...a Bo Nordh, Ivarrson, Teddy Knudsen?...You just never know if you will have a pipe barn find, but once you interest is piqued, it is off to the races. I definitely didn't get any of the master's of Pipe making, but I did alright...whoever the previous owner was, he smoked heavy and the rims be damned! At first glance, it looks like he was a rim torcher...after closer inspection, it just looks like years of soot... I started swabbing a rim of one of the Peterson's and it became evident that was the case with that pipe.
First up is a silver collared System Pipe stamped "K&P Peterson Dublin", P-lip. Next is a Peterson "Killarney The box says: "Sole US agents: Rogers inc. New York 16, NY" and has a $7.50 dollar pricetag...from SSJones post: So I am guessing 55-61? Next is a cased Meer with a bone tenon, and an amber stem that looks nasty, but is intact...no chips! "Genuine Block Meerschaum...Real Amber" inscribed on the case. Next is a BBB "Straight Grain Made in England" when this one gets claend up it will be a beauty, straight grain all around that blossoms into beautiful birdseye on the top of the stem...I hope that will be the case on the rim after the soot removal takes place. Next is a Pipe from the much talked about Bertram's pipe shop in DC...that is the shop that JFK had his aides buy up all the Cuban cigars when he decided to drop the hammer on Cuba...I always wanted a Bertram's...just because. (after I took the pic, I started swabbing the splotch below the rim and was coming out...salivated soot bubbled from the bowl? And I couldn't believe that I ran into this since I recently acquired a Beatty Jet lighter...this one is a "Falmbeau Flamidor Contenence 9cc Essence, Made in France" They go for around $90.00 on Ebay. Last, but certainly not least is A 1952 " 251 F/T Dunhill Tanshell Made In England2 Pat No. 417574/34" Followed by a 3 inside a circle and a Capital T.. I have never seen so much nomenclature at the base of the stem...it must have been a royal pain in the butt to be the stamping guy at the factory. The first year of the Tanshell. It has a stinger that slides out... He wanted $25 apiece for everything, I offered him $10 apiece...$70 for the six pipes and lighter...which in the end was fair, he told me he paid $200 for the storage unit. He had outbuildings full of all kinds of stuff, If you want $400 Italian leather shoes NIB, he has them...crates of Van Huesen dress shirts in original packages...it was insane how much crap this guy had...him and his dad (retired president of a rollup door company) were the nicest people do storage units auctions as a hobby...the house was pretty badass with a subterranean garage and hot rods that would make any red blooded American drool. When I left, Mike asked "Can I call you if I get anymore pipes"...I said "Feel free to do so". I think that I am just going to send the lot to Mike Myers, have him do a full restoration on the Dunhill and BBB and do a good cleaning of the others.

The total collectors value of all would be at least 10x what you paid ! H**l the Tanshell alone would be worth at least 5x what you paid for all of them ! Nice job !

Thanks Michael!
I played around with the lighter, it wouldn't accept a fresh flint, forcing the issue was going to mangle the spring/screw for the flint. I realized that there must be an obstruction and used my smallest slotted jewelers screwdriver and ground the old flint into powder and blew it out with canned air. Inserted a new flint, and put fuel into it, and it works great. I wonder if the Flamidor came before the Nimrod lighter...similar, I have had both but I think the Flamidor is superior.

I'm really happy for you, what a haul. The lighter is pretty cool alsoI don't get the video on the lighter...the guy shakes it, makes all kinds of motions...not necessary...strike and it lights, slide closed and you snuff it.

Big "WIN" for you, Charlie! Congrats! Thanks DeeT-T!... I gave up on Dunhill pipes, like others I thought that it would be cool to have a birth year Dunhill, but the prices seem so ridiculous compared to what Slowroll, Ron or Scottie puts out...hard for me to justify...nice to make a score now and again.

I doubt he understood the lighter at all and it sounded like laughter in the background so maybe they are kids cutting up?

Charlie....what a tremendous haul. Congratulations. I used to have a Beattie Jet lighter. Was the best lighter I ever had...wish I still had it. Are you interested in selling it? Please let me know by pm if you have any interest, I will make it worth your while.

Just had to come take another look. My favourite is that BBB. Bet you it will clean up nicely and turn into a stunning pipe.

No, I was recently gifted it from a customer of mine, and I do really like it.... every time it does it’s flame dip, I think it’s pretty cool....a nice precise light.

Yup, it’s not right to re-gift a gift, especially one given to you by someone you know well. If my Eltang Devil Anse was not a gift from a good friend it would have been gifted or sold already!! After almost a year I finally found a tobacco it smokes well......it makes FVF sing👍👍👍. So, I have a $600.00 pipe that smokes one tobacco well, some of my $50.00 pipes smoke superbly with whatever I feed them!

You got a hell of a deal, Charlie. I got a 1952 Tan Shell earlier this year ( my birth year pipe). A great smoker and the same shape. Please post pictures once they are all dressed up. I'm sure they'll be spectacular.

Are you going to have any restored professionally? Sorry, I forgot to respond to your question... I think for sure the Dunhill and the BBB will be off to Mike Myers...probably the meerschaum also because the bone tenon needs to be re-clocked...off kilter, just a hair, so I am pretty sure that resetting old bones will result in a replacement, initially, the others I was going to have them cleaned by a pro, but I think that I can handle the lions share of the work...and if they need further work, send them off. I have a couple other pipes that need the attention of a pro, so Mike will be getting a box soon.

Charlie ^^^^ those two should definitely be professionally restored. Mike Meyers will take his time, you’ll be satisfied, even if it takes a while. He should be able to also repair your Meer minor issue. Post pictures once complete, thanks...you got your hands on some beauties cheap!!! Good luck👌👍👍
