I hauled a trailer with a guy’s household goods to his home in Mesa, he moved from Tacoma, and said that his taxes on his crackerbox was 6k per year... I told him that was ridiculous, and he told me that King county Wa. was double that.... but 17k? A sure way to push a retiree into the street.... friggin criminal. Charlie, one of my close friends from Long Island lives in a 5,400 sq. ft. home in Dix Hills, his taxes just passed the $29,000 mark. Absolutely “ freakin “ ridiculous! Okay, he has a huge in ground pool and tennis court. He’s a Neurosurgeon, so all is just fine with him! That is just insane...if he is paying taxes to that degree, the patient will be the one that pays it...there is no free lunch.

If you move from the suburbs into the city, you escape property tax, but they charge you 4% personal income tax, and then another 4% for "unincorporated business tax"
It's a lose/lose. You get used to that kind of thing in the New York metro area

Plus as a Neurosurgeon his malpractice insurance surpassed the $1,000,000 annual fee!! So, you know he’s making BIG bucks!!! The two hospitals he’s affiliated with covers half of the cost...that’s still a large nut to crack!

adding my welcome/greets from 50miles East of Buffalo, NY. Not familiar with much of NYC but was in Bridgeport, CT for 1.5 yrs before college said bye bye (even with two tutors) back in '62. Many round trips via the old Newhaven RR to compete in running races at VanCortland park back in the day. Great group here, hope you enjoy your stay

I, like several other recent joiners, fled a failed attempt to create a pipe forum. Politics got in the way. That's strictly off-limits here, and that's what I'm hunting for.
Where? The Speak Easy? I like to read them all!

Where? The Speak Easy? I like to read them all! Yeah. It was The Speak Easy.
The moderators were lax on political discussion, then actual honest-to-god Nazis came goose-stepping out of the woodwork, and now it's a cesspool.
The Briar Patch is delightfully Nazi-free.

Also to get it out of the way, the nickname was just a line from a sitcom I was watching when I registered an account somewhere: "If someone offers you a free hat, smell the hat first."Thanks for that. Yeah, I thought it was going to be something like a "pull my finger" kind of deal. Well anyway, I was going to say, "Enjoy your time here..." but since you already have 139 posts, that's kindof a mute point. So instead I'll just say welcome aboard from Texas and Mexico.

I’m not so sure after reading a couple of posts in a thread that disappeared yesterday! I wouldn't go THAT far. But we do have our moments, like any human interaction.
