So many posts have been written about the patch, but I've had an epiphany as to why I think this place is as good as it is.
I posted about what our favourite smell is. Loads of people respond. We post what our favourite tobacco is. We post what our favourite movie is, thing to eat, hobby and so many contribute, which makes me think the following...
This place is like an enormous first date.
We are literally getting to know each other - what we like, what we don't like etc., and I think that's one of the reasons why this place is so good.
Arguably, other forums do the same, but I think it's what makes this place feel like a family. Possibly also because it's done in a non-threatening, civilised way.
Anyway, thanks for sharing.

This forum is great because of the quality of the members who comprise it. Many of us have been members of other forums...we still browse and sometimes post, but the bulk of our response has been here...which is why I have so many posts here on the Patch. Sparks has made a wonderful place where we can share our most inner thoughts. He is the source of our pleasure. So many good vibes to him who made this possible.

Because 99% of the members here are pleasant, don’t jump down your throat constantly with only “ their opinions count “, most of all.....NO KNOW IT ALL A$$HOLES👍👌👍. Here we learn from each other.....” play well in the sandbox together “!!!
Open minded people here with a wealth of knowledge to share....that’s what a great forum is all about.

The Patch is about things we have in common.A bunch of folks talking to each other in a friendly way. It's a pleasant place to spend some time and I do.I'm here every day.

not much to add to the above, but repeated thanx to Sparks for starting this place. Briefly met Sparks back "in the day" on Sat at the S.Buffalo B&M. Under the tuteldge (of the shop owner Brian Kalnitz)...Sparks quickly became a precision pipemaker. Those that know about same.....hope he can once again make some great pipes.
Kudos to everybody else while here. A fun place for sure. Glad I here for quite awhile now.

I know I'm very new here, but I definitely see what folks are talking about as far as civility and community. Having just left a very toxic place this is a breath of absolute fresh air. Good, consistent moderation is a major factor. Sends the right message from the top and the membership reflects the same. It's impressive as a newbie to the patch.

I believe before its founder passed they made strides in that regard; unfortunately, all for naught. For me it’s the members that are civil and respectful to others and no undercurrent of tension that makes this forum first class. Also the Moderators aren’t on an ego based power trip maneuvering to get another member banned from the site because they have the authority to do it. From what I’ve observed, in my short tenure on this forum, it appears our Moderators use wisdom and tact in dealing with inappropriate postings. For the most part serving as a Moderator is a thankless job that requires time, effort, sacrifice, patience, and desire to work diligently for the good of the forum. I believe our Moderators are dedicated to this end and deserve our gratitude for their efforts in maintaining the highest standards that are a major reason this forum shines brighter than all the rest.
