I’ve never smoked any of the Frogs. I only became curious about them about three months ago. Oh well, such is life. I like Frog Morton's Cellar, but it's not like, uh, unique. It's not an unmatched paragon of tobacco or anything. I won't be too broken up when I run out of it.
McClelland's Virginias were really something special, though. Nobody makes a VA flake like that, anywhere in the world. And nobody ever will -- the traditional tobacco cultivation it depended upon is extinct.
I feel that way about their VaOrs and Syrian blends. I also dig the Frogs, but they seem more "replaceable" to me that the others. I guess because of the toppings?

Sorry you heard too late to snare some of the blends, I had heard rumblings about it but still failed to buy any McClellands 40th anniversary, but I am glad that I really bought what I could of Christmas blends in the last few years.
There was a guy about a year ago on Facebook ( I think Gentleman’s Pipe Smoking Society),that was liquidating his cellar. It was pretty immense, and he had McClellands cellared far back and very deep. I tried to buy some never got a response, I think that someone with very deep pockets must have made a volume buy.....timing is everything as they say.

Do you have the Facebook page link ? Maybe he didn't find a buyer. The only Frog's I'm able to find are on Ebay. The bids are around $50. The ads say "tin only" but I'm assuming there is tobacco in it. I'm risking getting ripped off because technically they could ship me an empty tin and they have done nothing wrong.

Since fmc went dead I've been smoking Peter Stokkebyes English luxury and I very strongly encourage you to give it a try. While it's not fmc it's as close to a match as I think you can come to. I love the stuff and now smoke it daily.
I will try it. I've not had any luck with any of Peter Stokkebyes other bulk blends yet.

Their yenidje supreme was pretty decent...still have a half tin of it...been smoking it sparingly...like storm front...also sparingly. Fortunately I loaded up (for me) on the Va.s. Smoked some Blackwoods Flake the other night, had 4 years age on them...very tasty.

What size? How much to do you want for all 10 sold at once?
You'd best stick with eBay. The amount of money you would need to make a change in my situation that exceeds my liking for the FMC would be exorbitant. If you could afford it you would already have a cellar full. It ain't going to get cheaper than $50/tin. That's only 50¢ per gram, $1.50 per bowl. Much cheaper than any decent cigar.
Do you have the 50 g. tins or the 100 g. tins ?
$50.00 is what the 100 g. tins are going for on e-bay right now. More or less. They have ad's for $100 tins but they aren't selling.
There is also a 100 g. tin of Froggy on the Town from 2006. But it ships from Russia. How the heck did a tin of Frogs from 2006 end up in Russia?

Hi Michael, again, welcome to the forum and you're free to take part in buying and selling or trading your ware until the cows come home. One thing though...we have a 100 post rule that members are required to hit before this can take place (that also includes those who wish to sell to Michael - he would need to have hit 100 posts first, as would you). However, since you've posted 17 times so far in less than 24 hours, you'll have that threshold hit in no time. So if you could observe our little rule that we have to keep things ticking over nicely, we would appreciate it. Many thanks. Edit: Sorry haveldad, I deleted your offer. I hope you understand.

Does anyone have a list of other blends that could be affected by the FDA and USDA's actions ?
I really like Captain Earl's Pvt. Stock and 10 Russians cakes. These are marry and wicked strong. Has anyone tried these ? The leafs used in those taste very high quality to me.
Hopefully the remaining companies that meet these "deeming tests" can import the labor intensive leaf from Eastern Europe. Ironically it's the U.S. domestic Tobacco industry who lobbied for the original 350% Customs duty on foreign tobacco.
If worse comes to worse and the quality starts to plummet drastically with mechanized harvesting I would switch over to imported cigars.

I have the 100 gram tins. I paid about $15 each for them. I didn't realize that I had that many until I took inventory when I heard about McClelland's going away.

I have 2 unopened. Then a 100g jar I opened and smoked like 4 bowls out of. The stuff is really good if you like a mild aromatic, just not personally a fan. But they are not for sale here due to 100 post rules lol.

One way to determine if a blend is on the endangered list is to go to tobaccoreviews.com and look for the earliest review posted for that blend. It it's earlier than the February 15th 2007 predicate date the blend will be grandfathered.

As an aside, the possibility of certain tobaccos going away is especially troublesome to aromatic lovers. Aromatics can be challenging to successfully cellar. Some of them are known to lose their flavor over time. I suggest that if you smoke only aromatics BUT you wish to cellar pipe tobacco in preparation of any possible shortage, you should earnestly try to develop a taste for other types of blends. You don't have to stop smoking aros. Just consider not smoking them exclusively. Just my .02

Thank you. Are any of these similar to Frogs Cellar? I bought everything at once long time ago.. and of course waited until I got down to 2 tins before restocking.
I "assumed" because Pipe smokers made up around 1% of all smokers the FDA would leave pipe alone.
They're in the same ballpark for sure. Moonshine XXX is another. I'd be surprised if you didn't like them, and who knows you might even like one better than FMC. smellthehatfirst is correct that it was favoured with bourbon. Maybe you're thinking about PG (propylene glycol)? McClelland used vinegar as a natural preservative instead of PG. I agree with the Moonshine XXX recommendation. There is no "match" out there for ANY of the FM blends. And there will not be any forthcoming IMO. XXX comes close, but it too is not a "match". Still, I can't imagine anyone who liked the FM line-up not liking XXX.

A lot of people seem to like Black Frigate, which is flavored with rum, I think. I haven't smoked it but people seem to be almost fanatical about their devotion to it.
