We have Irish stew, ulster Fry (which includes soda bread, an Irish staple). Can't think of any more right now. What about Bubbles and Squeak, Bangers and Mash or Patsys. Lamb Stew. Soda Bread oh my,my oh my so good and maybe a good scone. Now I'm hungry. They are more English... Although over here we have pasties that aren't cornish ones. They're more like battered veg roll. They're good stuff. You get them in a chippy.

I’ve been to France.....I much more enjoy Cajun cuisine and the Cajun people!! The French, not so much!! Many don’t think kindly of Americans.....at least when I visited France. The French don't even like themselves much less any one else! BTW we make the BEST BBQ and Chili (NO BEANS) down here IMHO Well, Michael...after eating BBQ at Rudy's ....and Texas burgers and fried pickles at willies.....(burp)..I have to agree with what you said...with the exception of the Colombia restaurant in ybor city (Tampa) and their pailla..and the Cuban food in miami...Florida has nothing...taste is in their are. ....being a resident for far too long, I have the authority to say that.

@lonecoyote and Quintsrevenge... A chippy is what we call a fast food joint. It normally specialises in fish and chips (fries), but also do burgers, pasties (see above) battered sausage etc.

What you call chips are fries, here in the States Chips are potato chips. In the UK potato chips were called.....crips when I lived in Europe. Still the same?? Cheerio....Pip Pip👌👍

Bourdain always stopped here, LA-35, note the menu on the wall to the right, combo Groc and hometime restaurant. Brad what is that place in Beaux Bridges I ate at. Joint is up on stilts and plywood floor. Good feed back then!

One thing you can find in Arizona, and not too many other places, is Prickly Pear Jelly. Right now, the fruits are a nice dark purple and ready to pick ... with gloves!

Those crawfish look delicious. Me and my 9 year old were just talking about cooking some last weekend.
Cuban sandwiches are delicious. Theres a place about 20 miles away that is owned by a Cuban/Puerto Rican family that makes all authentic food. I havent been there (yet) myself, but everyone in my family says it's perfect. My family here is all Miami native.
I'm in the south, its bbq or fried everything and anything. If I didnt work so much, I'd probably weigh 300 lbs.

My husband and I own a food truck where we live. So, that's where the good food is here! 😉
If you're ever in Knoxville and need some good food, come find Cubish! We serve delicious Cuban-Irish Fusion food. Yum!
(If you're curious about the menu, look us up on FB....it'll give you an idea of the kinds of things we serve)

I have made Ropa Vieja a few times and it is truly great! Putting it inside pastry dough could be interesting.

One thing you can find in Arizona, and not too many other places, is Prickly Pear Jelly. Right now, the fruits are a nice dark purple and ready to pick ... with gloves! Those grew wild all over Malta. Delicious, sweet, but don’t wear anything white while picking, cleaning or eating prickly pears. You BEST be wearing the proper gloves while picking or peeling on of those “ puppies “! I can still feel the sting in my fingers from the fine pine needle like thorn pins!!

Cactus leaves are eaten here. The new leaves are charred on the grill to remove the needles, diced and added to stews, gumbos, calabacita. Like okra, it has a thickening quality. Adds an edge to the flavor profile. Older people swear it cures diabetes.

I remember being in a Mexican food market and noticed Nopalitos sold in cans. Used often in authentic Mexican cuisine 👍

The southwest is pretty bountiful in being able to fare scrumptiously! As mentioned, the Sonoran dog is pretty good, as is the prickly pear Jelly, but the Mexican food and Mexican influenced dishes are a gastronomical delight...Carne Asada, Chile Verde, Nogalese baked chicken, Ceviche, etc..... Fry bread of the native American variety and the Mexican are to die for. I roll fresh tortilla's out, cut into quarters and deep fry, this gives you a triangular pocket bread as the walls separate, snip a corner off and fill the cavity with meat and beans...kind of messy but very good!

Naturally, in New Mexico, a sopapilla stuffed with meat, beans, onions, etc and is drenched in either red or green chili gravy. That gravy is important because it also hydrates the fries which are served alongside. Don't worry. There are large glops of sour cream and guacamole along with diced tomato, cilantro and chopped lettuce, just in case you have a problem.

I go to places where the people are- La Gente. Otherwise, it is strictly for tourists. I order in Spanish and I expect results!!!!!!! I recall high-end Mexican restaurants which catered to the elite. Wear a coat and tie and behave appropriately. There is light bowing, handshaking and a lot of "Usted" in the dialogue with the proprietor along with as much Castillian pronunciation as I can manage. Old world formality. That class of Mexicans was influenced by Spanish, German and Czech immigrants. After some finger snapping and sharp orders from the owner, everything is much improved. I do not see that much anymore as much of that generation has passed over.

I do not see that much anymore as much of that generation has passed over. The Mojito is Cuban, this Mexican restaurant had Mexican, Spanish and Cuban employees.....that told me I was definitely not going to get authentic Mexican cuisine. Nobody, not even the bartender knew what a Mojito was, once I told him...I’ll show you and make it...where’s your fresh mint. He responded “ we don’t have any “! I should have left at that point!! PS The best authentic Mexican food here in NC was from a food truck parked outside a local micro-brewery in Clayton NC on a Sunday afternoon. Absolutely marvelous Mexican food...so good I gave the guy a great tip. He sent me a special platter 👍👍👍
