Anyone know of a, or have a nice 2 bedroom house in East Texas (or near by) to rent? It hasn't been easy contacting people on Craigslist to find one, I think there are some that are scammers and others
too lazy to take down ads when there no longer available and refuse to answer. I know of no where else to look.
It's not been easy trying to find a nice clean place and not be there to look at it.
Any help will be greatly appreciated. If anyone does Please PM me and Do Not post on this thread for privacy reasons.

Ron, you might check with a reputable real estate agency in the area where you wish to live. Very often they have clients that want to rent their property and list their home through a real estate agency. As the agent receives a commission from the property owner their service to you shouldnโt cost anything.

I don't understand.
Are you looking for owner financing or rent to own? Because you can just use the internet and find the house yourself. You don't even really need a Realtor (your just forced to pay them).
I am also in the market for a house. However, I am holding off because I feel there is a real estate conspiracy in restraint of trade resulting in a housing bubble. I keep waiting for the prices to come down.
I'm not sure I would feel good purchasing right now when the market is at a peak.
Allot of people forgot that in 2008 George Bush Jr. bailed out the banks. The banks got all the taxpayer trillions + they got to keep the houses. The media reported the banker bailouts. But they all collectively failed to mention the banks got the houses too.
These banks have rented these houses out or intentionally allowed these houses to sit in forclosure unsold. So they rigged supply and demand. The artificial high prices keep their "paper assets" high. This was all caused by baby boomers, going off the gold standard, decades of endless credit and money printing. Young people have to pay the price and it's not fair.
The entire system is dependent on Real Estate like a house of cards. The system demands on housing prices to keep going out which makes banks and owners rich on paper but shuts out 1st time buyers. It turns young people into renter slaves on a land lord plantation. And since most people are home owners they will vote for this system. They have set it up so young people are forced to go into lifetime of mortage slavery or throw money away their in rent to banks and landlords (see: parasites) and have nothing to show for it. This same phenom actually happened in the Roman Empire in the centuries before it's fall. It is not a fair system and can only last so long.
You may want to hold off buying. When it comes down to it a house is walls and a roof. The only reason these prices are so high is because the banks let anyone with a pulse borrow money, then they got all the houses, now they are manipulating supply and demand in restraint of trade, and outsourcing "liar loans" (AKA: stated income loans) and 1-2% down loans etc. again using these oursourced private lenders to get around the regulations that were but in place when they were bailed out with taxpayer money in 2008.
In Florida where I am now, they are selling mobile homes and double wides $50-100k. A suburb where I grew up in the 1990's houses were 20-30k with low income residents. Those same residents are still there - but now houses are listing at 200-300k. It's absurd.
It's all a Ponzi scheme. I am actually looking at buying in local markets that have not been effected as much (Ohio, Arkansas, Vermont) or overseas.
I have enough to payt for a house in cash and get out of renter slavery. But I cannot bring myself do to it because I feel the prices are at record artificial highs.
I hope the housing market tanks soon .... cause I gotta make a decision in the next 1-2 years. I can't imagine throwing all my hard earned savings on a house that costs 300-400k which some old guy paid 30-40k .... 20-30 years ago. It's absurd. These housing prices need to come down.

Michael,
Have you ever thought of moving to East Texas? You and Ron could split the rent... Ron is more smoker friendly than the HOA that you are trapped in.

I'm looking to rent, NOT buy and no roommates. Just thought someone might know or have is all. Maybe some of you don't understand, its hard to find a nice clean place if you not in the area to see it first hand. That's my biggest problem next to income. I'll leave it at that and not say anything more.

I have (or had) a really good buddy around Lufkin, but he stopped replying to my emails and answering my phone calls in 2010, around the time that he and his wife started having troubles and divorced.
And I had another "buddy" near Nacogdoches, but we fell out of company after he started getting a little creepy around my Wife and Daughter.
Wish I could help.

Ron, if you donโt want to do the Real Estate route, you could ask the local churches in the area youโre interest in, they have their parishioners ear, I am not a religious person but they have their ear to the ground on happenings in their area.

My son went through that when he relocated back to Ca., he depended on someone else to check the place out, he is stuck in a lease for a year living in a pretty funky shack.

Ron, what you might need to do is make a plane trip back to Texas, stay in a cheap/clean motel and look around the areas where you want to live. Unless you know somebody personally in Texas you can trust, the best option is what I suggested. I wish you ALL THE BEST.

There's a lot of trust to be placed on someone to do that. I agree with @lonecoyote... If there's nobody you know, who you can trust to scope a place out, you may need to take a trip and have a look yourself.

I have to purchase everything I let go in the move to Utah and that alone will cost around $10,000. Then when I move there'll be truck and trailer rental, men to load and unload and fuel for the trip. I'm unable to lift much because of my condition you see. I'm alone in this, so its just me to do it all.

Get a price quote for a 28โ pup Ron, they can arrange for loaders at each end, or you can find local guys on your own to do the loading and unloading. www.upack.com

Tallahassee is a hole...literally. A "college town" which means they screw everyone on rent for crap....food, forgetaboutit...if you don't like crappy pizza you are SOL. Wife and I bought a place through a life long friend who had rentals...it is nothing to brag about and close to being "poor white trash" living....but we own it now. The land's "best use" is as a sand pit...literally AAA grade sand. Worth triple what we paid for it in sand lot usage. We'll give it to my wife's son when we pass, he is a self made man and buys everything in cash...wish I had his money, and he earned every dime of it. He may use the property to build his 3rd home. Saw the difference in people while in Texas...nice folks who are for the most part really nice. Tallahassee is getting like Miami...rough.

1400 miles is 20-24 hours of driving depending on your route, weather, traffic etc. It might be easier to pay a someone. Did you have a chance to calculate the cost of gas, motels, food, time, wear and tear on your car - vs. a place ticket and a freight truck?
I use a freight truck between CA, NV, FL and back with a plane ticket all the time. The cost is equal or less. If you get some quotes and do the math maybe you will see you don't have to do all that driving and wear on your car. My car only gets 10-13 MPG though. So maybe that would make a difference.

Also if you don't have a radar detector you might want pick one up for your trip. A low end Cobra should help. Sometimes on long drives you can be speeding without thinking - and you would not want to have a speeding ticket.
