Crystal is the way to go. Especially with raw oysters, nothing compares!
As far as tobasco, I prefer the red on most things to add flavor, the green is also good and adds flavor in a different way.

We would get tiny bottles of Tabasco in the MREs we had when I was in the Army. We held on to them or made sure we had a bottle or two when we went to the field. Only thing made some of that crap food bearable. Till this day I still like Crystal on my pizza pie.

I have a friend who was a contractor in Afghanistan. He would send his things when he came home to my house as he had no family close. I tried the new MREswhich he gave me a few years back and these new meals with the heaters and they can keep them lol. Tabasco wouldn't even make them bearable!

Whats your favorite flavor? I'm a green man all the way but will do red in restaurants if that's all they have. What say ye the brethren ? I stick with the original.

Thanks for the info on the green....have to try that. Anybody ever try Arizona Gun Slinger. Mild hot but flavor to knock your socks off. Kinda funny you should mention them.... I pick up pallets, of their products headed to Canada... I need to do the trucker schmooze, and weasel some bottles from them.

The green is just a tad hotter but it's more flavorful by a mile. IMO I knew you would comment on this and I agree 100% The green is very mild to me. I wouldn't say that either is more flavorful, they just have different flavors. I think the red is hotter, but neither are that hot IMHO. YMMV. We had better be careful or we will end up as intellectuals like Drama. Intellectuals with rough hands and extremely cool beards but intellectuals just the same. You guys do have cool beards. 👍

McIlheney's Tabasco Sauce, the regular red is a staple. I used to call on the old Midland National Bank in Midland Texas and being the right kind of people, they would take me to lunch in their dining room. A decent Chicken Fried Steak with the usual white gravy. Now, it is my observation that, in West Texas, a white gravy must be completely bland. I mean there is virture in bland and they are a virtuous people in Midland. After a few visits, I started carrying a tiny bottle of Tabasco in my coat pocket and would deploy a few drops on my nice but bland gravy. This caused stares and silence broken only by, "Well, he isn't from aroud here".
Tabasco or Crystal goes in my Gumbo, Red Beans and Rice and what-have-you. Generally, it is Tabasco.
I prefer Cholula from the State of Jalisco in Old Mexico for eggs and most everything else. Truth is, I never met a pepper sauce I did not like.
Glad this thread was posted.

A good everyday sauce. Tapatio is an excellent choice AND it is available in an economy sized bottle. A Tapatillo is man from Guadalarja which is where this originates. Tapatillos are tremendously proud of their city. I spent time there in the middle 1960s and it was a special place then. Very cultured and beautiful.

I love Sriracha too. Goes great on spaghetti marinera. I absolutely hate this stuff I actually like some clear sauce from the local Mongolian barbecue more, but it isn’t branded, and will roast the hair off your Chesticules.

I like the Original Tobasco. We visited the factory on Avery Island, I think, a few years ago when we were there for my sister's funeral. Beautiful, prehistoric landscape. The factory is pretty primitive too. A lot like the tobacco business I guess, but they have a lot of experience doing one thing right. That said, I usually buy Cholula these days.

Ok, so what I'm hearing (reading) is that I need to get me some of that green stuff. I must check the supermarket next time I'm doing the shop and pick one up.
My dad used tabasco sauce on everything. He would buy the jumbo-sized bottles. I've fond memories of him plastering it on everything he ate. It's funny how that memory brings back such emotions. I do miss him.

Tabasco is too vinegary for me but I've used it in a pinch. That is so. That "vinegar" is an added flavor dimension which works with some dishes but now helpful in others. Anyone else like it on buttered grits?

So here are my options. The green is supposedly milder. I wonder do we have a different type here...

I recall as a kid, heat a corn tortilla held in the tines of two forks over the stove. Smear with butter or lard. Dribble Tabasco liberally. Enjoy!

It's not spicy enough for me. But, I like the green best. For hot sauce, it's El yucateco all the way, for me. Especially the XXX one. www.elyucateco.com/sauces
