So here are my options. The green is supposedly milder. I wonder do we have a different type here... Nope. It is milder.

We would get tiny bottles of Tabasco in the MREs we had when I was in the Army. We held on to them or made sure we had a bottle or two when we went to the field. Only thing made some of that crap food bearable. +1. To this day I always have a bottle of red in the Fridge and several more in the pantry.

A few years ago there was a colt named Tabasco Cat entered in the Kentucky Derby. Despite being unsuccessful on Derby Day, the horse went onto success winning the other two jewels of the Triple Crown. That story is here with more: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tabasco_CatNevertheless, there was another story under the radar in the backdrop. When thoroughbreds are named, they're screened for trademark infringements. For some reason, it was assumed Tabasco was generic and this one slipped through the cracks. Rather than lawyering up, the McIlhhenny Company was good natured about the mishap, had a good time with it, treated the colt like their own and took the free advertising - Everybody won. One can only assume what may have happened to the poor critter had he been named Coke Cat?

The DEA would have been all over it.

If we are being specific to tabasco I like original and chipotle. My current favorite hot sauce is probably secret aardvark though.

I've tried all of those ... not bad! How about Dave's Insanity Sauce, Scorned Woman Hot Sauce, Pain is Good Hot Sauce or Nando's Peri Peri Hot Sauce?

Red is cooking not drenching. Green for stuff that is already cooked.

Yep had Arizona Gunslinger it is way better than Crystal or Franks. If you cant find it look for Try Me Cajun Sunshine. Picamas Brava green is a great Jalapeno based sauce and number one in Guatemala adds great flavor without burning your taste buds. Hot sauce should enhance not overpower. We had a guy at work ruin a good chili because he put way to much habanero in it. Unless you are trying to cover the taste of rancid meat I see no need to over do it.

I like flavor over heat every time..old folks can't take a lot of intestinal problems.

I like the chipotle one or sriacha or however it is spelled! That's why we just call it "Rooster Sauce"!

We have red in the fridge right now but I like the flavor of the green better. I also like Cholula as fine.

I always have the extra large bottle of the original Tobasco and a regular size bottle of the green in the fridge. They go fast. Dan Akroyd was once asked what he puts Tobasco sauce on. His answer: "Anything edible". I'm with Dan - soup, stew, eggs, mac and cheese, grits, cottage cheese, red beans and rice, casseroles, etc. At my house, I call it "the universal condiment".

No man can go far wrong with the original McIlhenny Tabasco Sauce. It covers a multiplicity of sins and errors and goes with about anything. I put a drop in my beer/ale/stout. There are more sauces with complex flavor and hotter ones. I like Cholula best of all but plain old original red Tabasco is just fine.

I was going to say... I bought some cholula the other day for my burrito. It's the best. I went through a third of a bottle in one sitting. It's great stuff.

Love Cholula. Of the Tabascos, I like chipotle, green, red in that order. That's splitting hairs though, they're all good!

Started growing Jolokai (Ghost Pepper) this year, a single plant. First batch, about 20 peppers, made 2 quarts of a apple cider vinegar/tomato base sauce. Looks like I may get another batch ripe on the plant, plan on a tomatillo (green) based sauce. Just 20 peppers will make a half gallon of fairly hot sauce. Grew up with Tabasco, still use it but there is soooo much more out there, it's worth trying a few, just to define what you like.
