Tips on keeping your pipe lit

So the basics

Dry you tobacco,some blends more than
others.Play with the dryness until your
happy with the burn plus flavor.

Proper pack,the method isn't as important
as the result.You should be able to draw
with a slight resistance.

Tamping,let the tamper do the work.
Don't push on it,if you tamp too hard
you can plug up your draught opening.
Tamp about every five to eight draws to
keep the ember in contact with the
tobacco.With a little practice you
can tamp around the edges and get a
more even burn.

Cadence,Too fast your pipe burns hot.
Short smoke time and less flavor.Too
slow and you end up relighting alot.
I've found short tugs in between draws
helps keep a steady burn.

Relighting is just part of the experience.
Don't fret over it.Get a good book or movie
to take your mind off of it and most will
come about naturally.

When I sit on the patio and smoke, I don’t need too many relights, even though I am not an old codger, I can do that without really thinking about it with most blends.

In and out of the truck, the pipe rests a lot in between stops, relights aren’t an issue.... more often than not, I enjoy the relight.

To me it's more so about the prep and the pack. Different blends need to be dried more than others. Some cuts need to be packed a little more firm or a little lighter to maintain an ember. It's all trial and error.
