Sorry guys my daughter and I walked out beyond bad the day was saved by a good lunch at Jasons Deli. Everybody finds humor in different things and ways so don't let my review dissuade you. I give it a solid 2 out of 10 and we all know what number 2 stands for. Funny, I gave out a 3.

I always thought Sir Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing did a fine job. Peter deserved to be knighted too, if the title means anything at all these days. Is there a posthumous option?

There is not much new in comedy these days. However as the years go by I find that comedy films are growing less clever as a whole.
PS I am not that old but have watched films from different eras.

Sorry, but I do not find that duo entertaining at all, and don't watch any of their stuff. Everything I've ever tried, I turned off. I was mildly entertained by Reilly in "Walk Hard" the Dewey Cox story, but that's about it. Will Ferrell makes me want to brake a chair over his head. Some people have that effect (shrug)

I saw this movie yesterday and enjoyed it. First of all, I went expecting it to be silly, inane and full of sight gags. It was all of that. Not as clever as Mel Brooks' Sherlock Holmes' Older, Smarter Brother but I got some laughs from it.

Went to see it this afternoon at the mall and I'm glad the other stores there were open as it gave me something to do afterI walked out from the movie. I only lasted 20 minutes into it before I had to walk out. Not so much about the Sherlock Holmes part but it's gotta be the WORST movies those two have done together. IMHO don't waste your money !

It's very telling to me that a couple of folks here have walked out of this movie. That seems to be a common thing for this film.
People posting on non-movie related sites (like this one) have been unable to finish this movie in theaters. Seems somewhere between 30min to 45min into the movie is about the average time for walk-outs.
The trailer alone is enough to show me that I've got better things to do with my time. I will not even watch for free if/when it's on Netflix.

I agree, it’s the original for me, I have the time now👍 The classic Sherlock Holmes movies starring Basil Rathbone are great, as is the 1984-1991 series starring Jeremy Brett. 👍👍👍

If there is anything humorous in the cases of Holmes and Watson, Nigel Bruce will handle it.

I find the Jeremy Brett version probably the best and most true to the original Sherlock. Saying that, the Cumberbatch version is very entertaining and well made.

Some gentlemen prefer blondes while others lust after brunettes and redheads.
Which is your choice, Ford or Chevy?
With great difficulty I am trying to watch the Jeremy Brett interpretations. My personal preference of the two is the most excellent 1939-1946 Basil Rathbone collection of Sherlock Holmes movies which are available for your viewing pleasure free of charge on YouTube. www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLrMjYgLDP2goDLIqya2H-hHu-_Do0ue6i
Upon the recommendation of Quintsrevenge I have started watching the modern Sherlock on Netflix and it is extremely well done. What it is lacking is Sherlock and Watson smoking a pipe whenever and wherever they please as is portrayed in the Rathbone collection. That's the way life used to be for pipe smokers up through the 1960/70's.

Eureka... found the Sherlock Homes series with Jeremy Brett on You Tube. As I’m a dinosaur, type “Jeremy Brett Sherlock Homes” and you’ll find the site.

Both the Brett and Cumberbatch versions treated Dr. Watson as an intelligent participant in the process. Watson was not, as others have portrayed him, some sort of clueless buffoon. I believe that the Brett version was the most accurate and best portrayal, and my favorite. I'm grateful, however, that we have so many versions to choose from.

The best of the Basil Rathbone / Nigel Bruce movies was Hound of the Baskervilles. In my opinion. And one reason that might be is because it adhered to the original story.
But the Rathbone Bruce movies are a lot of fun.
Here is the great thing. The original stories are available, and make an ever excellent read. When a Sherlock Holmes show or movie disappoints, the original restores our faith. There is an excellent Audible recording of the complete stories, read by the actor Stephen Fry. I listen to quite a few different readings and Stephen Fry's is the most to my liking. He never just "phones it in". In every part of every story, he reads it with the serious dramatic vigor that applies. I got the impression that he really enjoyed the task. It should be an award winning reading, IMO.

Naturally, WWII was an "all hands" operation so Holmes and Watson were dragged in to fight Naaazis.

And some prefer the lack of all three. Whatever gets me from point A to point B.👍
