How many of you remember these pipes from the days gone by? Got an email from P&C with an offer of a pipe, super value vanilla tobacco, cleaners and a pipe nail for the whopping sum of 12.50

I saw this but had no clue what a nylon pipe is... Let's say a Grabow Viking with a nylon stem.

Years ago I had one that had a metallic coating over the nylon. Over time it wore off. It wasn't a bad smoke. Recently the wife got 5 pipes off eBay one has a nylon stem the bowl does fit on the Viking. Thinking about getting one from P&C for a shop pipe.

I've never seen anything like that before. I'm assuming they aren't common.

Not any more, during the 60s 70s and 80s they were produced to compete with the Falcons Vikings and Kerstens. More of a working man's pipe. Nylon can be strong and durable if made right.

Not sure how nylon smokes but I do have one. The pipe P&C is packaging with their deal now is one I got as a gift months ago. The bowl is brier and unscrews to come off. I doubt it smokes better than a cob though. If I were to package a starter set for someone getting into pipe smoking, I'd much rather give them a $5 Missouri Meerschaum to start. Still, I've been curious about the pipe and just might give it a try one day this week and report back.

Enjoy the smoke, I look at these as a shop pipe, my work shop gets covered in Man Glitter all the time i have found this effects my cobs.

possibly two from back then, not positive if actually nylon. Had one....thePipe. bowl seemed to be kind of man made material, No matter what OTC baccy, instant mouth burn. Needless to say, not long afore it hit the "round file". Mighta been something similar called "theSmoke". Course the el cheapo vulcanite stem would oxidize just looking at it! End of that experiment

My dad had 3 of the chrome plated nylon Vikings with flaking chrome. All of his pipes were thrown out a few years after he died. Weren't any valuable pipes for sure. My Vikings are metal and in good condition. I had a nylon stem that fit a Viking bowl and I gave it to a guy who wanted a hunting pipe. I had 2 Brylons and sent them down the road.

I branched out to Falcon pipes recently. One experimentation a decade for me.

I bought a Yello-Bole Brylon many years ago. A horrible pipe that I keep to remind myself of the folly I committed back then.

So I just had my first smoke with the nylon pipe that I got free from P&C months ago. I have to say it went better than expected. One could say that it’s a poor man’s Falcon although there doesn’t seem to be much support if any for extra bowls. The one I have here is similar to the one P&C is doing a package deal with now only with a different bowl. For my first smoke out of this pipe I loaded up Presbyterian because it’s a tobacco that I have smoked often and in many different pipes so I have a better understanding of how it should behave and taste. To my honest surprise it smoked fairly well and tasted just fine. The pipe itself is really light so it works with clenching. Another nice thing is that you can easily take the bowl off and knock out any moisture that’s accumulated at the bottom. This was a good thing because during the course of this first bowl I had gurgle three times but being able to do away with the moisture brought back an enjoyable smoking experience. It was so very simple to just unscrew the bowl and tap out the moisture and put it back on and continue. The bowl itself, while not the prettiest thing to look at, did well and if smoked properly did not get super hot. It could easily be held like any other pipe and was just warm to the touch. The nylon part of the pipe helps in keeping it very light so again, it’s great for clenching. I could see this being a pipe that one might want to throw in their backpack if they’re doing a bit of hiking but it’s also great in that it’s got some flexibility to it so if looking to take a pipe into a situation that could be quite rough the pipe will have some leeway before actually breaking. Overall it’s not a pretty pipe and I definitely have ones that smoke better but for what it is, it does a pretty good job. It’s certainly a pipe that for the right person in the right situation has a purpose and could serve well. I’m even willing to say I wish it had more support in being able to attach different styles of bowls.

Just received one of the nylon pipes. Haven't smoked it yet looking it over it made me wonder if a bowl from a Kersten might fit. I think the attachment assembly my be the same I'm not sure since I've only seen pictures of the Kerstens.
Also this nylon pipe is not pretty but it would work for the yard, the shop, hiking, fishing, hunting or any place else the pipe might get damaged.
My only complaint is the tobacco that came with it. It was the Super Value Vallina. The could have put some SWR,Grainger, half n half, velvet, PA or CH in. Omg not everyone smokes black Cavendish.

I agree and find mine smokes well enough that it would be nice if they sold the pipe on its own. A pipe one could beat the hell out of because it's cheap and it's already not that pretty.
