Got to do something today that I haven't for about a decade, and have sincerely missed. I'm sitting here now celebrating with a bowl of Vintage Syrian and considering how random it was to fall into this opportunity, and to be able to share it with other people going forward. It occurs to me that slowroll would probably approve . But overall, I'm also appreciating how great a pipe is for sitting and thinking about these kinds of things. It's funny how such a simple object can really seem more like a companion after you've shared a few sessions like this with it. Life is good!

A bucket list experience for a lot of folks, glad ya got the opportunity to do it again. Glider and balloon are the ones I'd like to get in before I get done.

Looks like a great day, and I'm glad you got to reflect on it over a pipe.
The pictures tell a great story.

Nice to post about a good day, thank you. Usually they get overlooked. Great pics, too. Exactly... Overlooked, or splashed across social media in a "look at me!" kind of way, which is not what I intended. It just feels like the particularly good times deserve acknowledgement, and besides the pipe tie-in, my lurking here makes me feel like you guys get it. You're a good bunch ;-).

So envious! Thanks for sharing the pics. Flying has always been a dream. Being 37, it is probably a dream I better get to work on soon. haha
I have been thinking of looking into a small one man craft like like a Toucan Trike etc.

Wonderful pics SD. Not a week goes by that I don't miss my beloved Vickie... I sold her 4 years ago. Will hopefully pick up another V-Tail Bonanza next year. (I really miss flying)

Always wanted to ride in a Stearman, with a sane pilot.

Always wanted to ride in a Stearman, with a sane pilot. Well, that leaves me out. Stearmandriver , I definately approve. Did you do any snap rolls?

Holy wow, I have never seen first-person shots from a biplane before. How does one train for such a thing? Are there special skills required to avoid the, shall we say, interesting gyroscopic properties?

(I really miss flying) Is renting just not the same? I ask in earnest, I have no idea. What few of my friends took up recreational flying, none owned their own aircraft.

Renting a plane is not the same as renting a car. Most plane rentals are tired old trainers. The newer planes are usually pretty expensive to rent. After owning my own plane for 10 years I got spoiled. :-(

I think "sane pilot" and "stearman pilot" would make a Venn diagram with very little overlap. But there must be a few... No snaps. Aerobatics is a conversation I haven't yet had with the owner. We need to talk about that... But one thing at a time, I'm not gonna be greedy. (Plus I haven't been upside down in 10 years either and could probably use a refresher).

Wonderful planes and pics! As a CFII who also teaches aerobatics, I definitely approve!!!! Haven't been in a Stearman in a while. I do teach in Bonanzas regularly (not mine, I'm sad to say); as for aerobatics, I'm generally teaching in Decathalon/Citabrias, and for more advanced students Pitts SII B's or Extra 300/Sssssss.

Here's a quick refresher. Probably a little inconvenient for you to visit me, so this will have to do. Oh, right THAT'S how it goes, with the ground up there and the sky down there... I'm good now! Naw, I'm sure I'm fine for lazy acro like you do in a Stearman, loops, aileron rolls etc. Just trying to be polite with someone else's plane. We'll talk about it eventually. The idea is that I'll be running an instruction program in the plane again, like I used to back in the midwest before going to the airlines. I'd personally like to work basic acro into the syllabus for proficiency's sake... We'll see. That's a cool shot though. I've been starting to mess around with a gopro but haven't used anything but a headstrap. Can you share where / how you had it mounted for that shot?

@stearman driver , I made a camera mount to fit between the cabane struts. It's a length of hardwood on which I made padded angle brackets at the same angle as the cabanes with clamp bolts to hold it on. A 1/4 - 20 bolt thru it mounts any camera. I have DSLR with which I also made some neat movies. I also have a camera mount that comes up thru the baggage compartment, and one that mounts out on the interplane strut facing inward toward the fuselage. I'd post a short movie, but I don't have an image hosting site that handles video.
