Here are a few pictures of the 2018 Peterson Christmas pipe... I love the copper mount.

Quite nice! Did you buy one?

Quite nice! Did you buy one? I wish. That was a smokable second too (hence the blue sticker on the stem), so it was €60, but I've hardly a penny to my name so I just lusted. When trailboss wins the next megamillions, I'll put that on the list.

Nice looking pipe, but will it smoke good....” that is the question “?? I just wouldn’t take the chance anymore.

Save your money an wait. All I can say. LOL! I don't even think I'll do that. There are many many better pipes out there, I feel. Plus, I am in no need of any more pipes. I do like the copper band. I will give it credit for that.

I have yet to have a Petersons find it's way to me. So no real experience with them. Does look like a nice pipe though. The copper ring and color give it sort of a steampunk look.

They look a lot better than last years Christmas pipe... they have the white acrylic stem, I think that my local tobacconist has a dozen, and he has never sold a single one, I think.

I've never particularly cared for the way the Peterson metal rings fit... to me they look more like caps not perfectly mated.

It is not a bad looking pipe, but like you said Paddy, there are many more pipes that are worth having...no real reason to lust after the Peterson...unless you just want to lust after it.
"Steampunk"...I know what it means and I know what it looks like...but why? Just to have a name for some crappy looking setup that any "Rube Goldberg" can put together. (a Rube Goldberg is a term meant to imply that it was just thrown together, before someone decides to accuse me of being 'Insensitive" and anti-Semetic...know what you are talking about before showing ignorance).

My son reads a lot of fiction, including what he calls steampunk. So looked it up on google "Steampunk is a subgenre of science fiction or science fantasy that incorporates technology and aesthetic designs inspired by 19th-century industrial steam-powered machinery" On the covers of a lot of his books there tends to be lots of contrasting colored mechanical parts, with copper being a prominent color. So I thought that the pipe sort of had a steampunk look to it with the color of the stummel and the copper band. I guess this is more of what would be called a steampunk pipe.

Really nice pipe. Amazing how just changing to copper can have such a strikingly different effect, and somehow make it more Christmasy.

I think Peterson's Christmas pipes are either a big hit or a huge miss. I have a 2015 05 that I really like, but I kind of despised '16 and '17. This year's is pretty nice, but I'm a little concerned about maintaining the copper cap for years to come. Tarnished copper is just nasty.

A little carnauba wax will prevent tarnishing.

But I agree that the '17 was lame.

I'll be the first then haha. I purchased this one and I love it. My best Peterson for sure. The briar is dense and heavy and it is a great smoker. Since it is a straight shape I can even pass a pipe cleaner through it, yay! No regrets here.

I really like it but I dont think I'll be ordering one anytime soon. I have 2 Peterson pipes, both are great smokers. After spending some time here I feel that I got lucky with those 2. 2/2 good is 100%, 2/3 good is only 66%.

"That was a smokable second too (hence the blue sticker on the stem)"
Why is it considered a second? is it the gnarly looking sandblast, or is the airway off center? the reason for the concern is that those would sale for first rate in the States. I personally like the looks of it.

I personally like the looks of it. The man in the shop said that there may be fills, slightly-off drilling etc. I suppose, for a rusticated pipe, fills aren't an issue and so it would be more a drilling issue.

They sell for $125 at SP, so unless the flaw is serious that's a bargain at the current exchange rate. It would be around $68.

That one looks like a rusticated 303, with a copper cap. It's nice looking! I love my 303.
Edit: different stem than my 303.
Edit, edit: sandblasted, not rusticated

I know Peterson isn't what it used to be. I didn't get a dud when I bought my 303. I will say this, though: When I first took up the hobby again in February, I felt like I SHOULD have at least one Peterson in my bag. Like it was a rite of passage, sort of. Coming from $40 estates and basket pipes, spending that $125 felt like, "OK. Now I'm invested in this." In hindsight, that was kind of silly, but I'm still glad I bought it. That feeling was a good feeling.

Most of my collection that I smoke are Petersons, You either love them or hate them, I love all of mine. That's why I was trying to find out why that pipe was rated as a second, as far as my tastes go, that would be first rate...But what else would you expect from a redneck like myself.

Oh man, I love the look of the 2016. But I agree that the '17 was lame. It's the red/green color scheme on those that turn me off. Nothing particularly wrong with it, but not my taste.
