Enjoying an after breakfast bowl of Black Frigate. Down to the last cube. May have to order more. Toss up- BF or Blockade Runner?

Smoking Blockade Runner now. Very nice even though there is no latakia (kinda my thing). Tomorrow I’ll smoke some BF.

I enjoy both, but if I had to choose one it would be Black Frigate 👍

I packed a bowl of BF but didn't smoke it, it sat there for two days. When I did fire it up it was better for me....somehow the Latakia was toned down and the rum was more pronounced....Whats up with that ?

I think he's referring to the latakia. Yep. Just enough to let you know it's there, but never overwhelms the other components.

As the ice melts, the water dilutes the flavor. Same with tobacco, the more moisture, the less flavor. I smoke everything bone dry and have very flavorful smokes.

Same here ... it started as an accident and I never looked back! It also helps with relights. And goes a long way in preventing unwanted moisture buildup.

Question: I don't watch the youtube pipe community much anymore but I did take a look at a video today about C&D crumble cakes such as BF. They were comparing an old tin to a new tin (2016 and after). The old one was a solid cake like I am used to but the new was very loose and crumbled into almost a ribbon cut upon touching it. Has something changed in the process and will it taste the same? I would think high pressure vs low pressure pressing would make a difference in aging and taste even fresh out of the tin. I have yet to try this blend. I purchased a tin this year at the Chicago Pipe Show at the C&D table. I am just curious what may be going on. This guy is saying it is the same with Pirate Kake, Briar Fox, etc. Has anyone noticed this with their tins and does the fresh tin taste much different? Just curious is all.
