The first issue of Archie's Golden Pelican mini-series is now available in digital format. Written by Paul Kupperberg, pencils by Bill Galvan, and finished art by me. I hope you'll support the project. The first few pages shown in the free sample are just scene setters to the more interesting stuff.

Great art work...of course! Thanks. The best art starts a few pages later when the story gets moving. I did a lot of dry brush and cross hatching to make the light penciling more detailed and realistic (for a comic book).

I got it from Amazon and I have started it and it's pretty good, especially on the new 10" Fire HD I bought myself for Christmas. You can view it panel by panel full screen.

Such talent we have here: painters, writers, wood workers, mechanics, pipe makers... me, "I drink and I know things," that's about it. A hat tip to the true creative geniuses in the BP!

Jim is certainly a talented artist but his real talent is finding excuses for NOT sending me two tins of Rotary tobacco. AJ

Outstanding work, Jim. Out of curiosity, how long would one of those pages take to complete?

Outstanding work, Jim. Out of curiosity, how long would one of those pages take to complete? It varies. Those pages you saw were easier than what comes later in the issue, and certainly issue #2, which I just finished a couple days ago. Some pages take 2 to 3 hours, some more. In the case of this series, where I'm doing a bit of redrawing and all the finishes, it takes more time than if I was doing a straight ink job. In the almost thirty years I've been a professional, I'd say the majority of ink jobs I have done were finishes.
If you look closely at the cover, you'll see there's a bit of detail in the water. I used a dry brush effect which takes more time than just using a pen or a fully loaded brush. So the right side of the cover took longer to do than the left side.

Excellent art work, Jim. You are also a fine fellow; I always come away from our telephone conversations with a smile.

I wish I had even a little bit of your talent, and also some of the talents of our pipe making fraternity here on the patch. I've very little artistic skills, but I've come to terms with that. Thanks for responding. I'm in awe.

Can i get this onto my computer and print it for comfortable convenient reading? you can view it on your computer. Go to //read.amazon.com and your kindle books can be read through the website. Edit...that link doesn't work for me, but the .co.uk link does. I would assume the .com link works for you. Get a free kindle book and try it.

Very nice work Jim, you have impressed me Thanks, but I don't do color work. I draw. The pencils on this mini-series were a little too cartoony for the subject matter, so I was asked to make them more "comic book realistic".

I downloaded the Comixology app for free, but did not subscribe to the monthly plan. I downloaded the book and it looks great! There is an option to look up a retailer near you so as to buy a paper copy. As luck would have it, right near where I drop a trailer regularly is a comic book store.

That "retailer near you" option may just be a default within the app that may not really allow you to get a paper copy.
I went to the Comixology website, scrolled to the bottom and clicked on retailer:

Thanks jim...
I imagine doing the setup, and production costs, distribution, retail, etc....
And with a more narrow audience than a few years back...pipes and comics share that common reality, don't they?
We "download" through SP, TP, P&C much cheaper than going to a B&M where a blender may reside. If and when the evil forces shut down online purchases, I hope we have som B&M's still standing....but thinking about it, that might actually strengthen the B&M if there is a customer base.
