As most of you know I don't post personal thoughts, this is the one exception I will allow myself to do.
Sitting here trying to smoke a bowl Star of the East Gold in my Watson Meer. As I sit here I feel all alone and a hole in my essence. I know what caused the hole but didn't think it would disturb me this much. The cause was the passing of small creature that would give me crap if I left her to long. She had to know where I was all the time. The scratching of the ears, back and belly was a daily must. This little creature was my unconditional friend and companion. This morning I had to bury her after her passing during the night

John_R...sorry for your loss of a love of your life. They leave a hole in your heart...they own a piece of your heart now. I have 3 grave sites in my back yard for the three loving dogs that we took care of. When you are ready, go to the local shelter, you will find a small creature calling to you...the look in their eyes tells of loss and pain, too. Some left by thoughtless humans, because they wanted a puppy not an older dog. Humans, for the most part, are the cause of much of the misery in this world. But you can make a difference...you can take one of these sweet creatures home with you. They will fill that hole in your heart...but you will forever know that the one you buried owns a part of you now. Hope the Lord gives you some peace from this message of mine.

I've been there and Im not going to say it gets better or any of the ussual words. We all feel things differently. All I can say is that I am sorry and that Im sure many feel the same as me when I say we are here for you. If you need to express yourself, do it. We're a pipe family here.

@johnr Communication is what its all about John, and your post doesn't offend me in the least. It helps to talk about what ales you. I know how you feel, as one who would come home from a day, dealing with organized ring activity and such, and when you walk through the door, here's a couple of wagging tails bumping up against your legs, unconditional love beaming at you from brown eyes, and what you've been dealing with during the day simply melts away as it hadn't happened at all. I'm sorry for your loss brother. Those companions are priceless

Condolences. I have had to do this too many times. My last dog is lying on my lap as I write this. She's two and my last dog.

Sorry for your loss, John. I know how you feel right now. Your love for that little friend says much about who you are. Walt's response up above, also sums it up fairly well for me.

John, sorry for your loss. Reflect on the good times you had together. You lost a member of your family, not only a pet. Better days are ahead.

They're family members. It's a relationship we've had with them since our spieces was young.
It takes strength to share these things, rather than to sit alone with them,so we'll done, and thank you for sharing. I doubt there's anyone here who'd feel different

I'm sorry, John. I know that pain too well. I still miss my first pup. I was with my parents a few weeks ago, when they had to put their dog down, and the heartbreak is beyond intense. These creatures we take on are our children, and offer absolute unconditional love. You always know that no matter what your day is like, they're always there to love you. So, my heart goes out to you, and I offer sincere empathy for what you're going through.

I'm terribly sorry for your loss, John. I've been where you are a few times and I know how you're feeling. It's amazing how such a small creature can leave such a large void in your life when they're gone. The worst of the emotions will pass eventually, my friend, but the memories will always remain. Just remember that her life was better for having someone in it who cared as much as you obviously did.

So sorry to hear of your loss. The passing of our little soulmates is the deepest abyss we can fall in. I still wake up dream-crying from such many losses going back tens of years to not so long ago. Pangs of lonesome sadness well up from my memories of them.

Sorry to hear. I do sympathize because i've also have to bury too many of my Corgi buddies over the years. It never is easy, and I remember all of them. I wish they lived longer.

When our last dog passed, it took us a year before we could come to a place where we could accept another one. I was ready before the Lady of the Manor. I think she viewed the idea of getting a new dog as a sort of betrayal. Eventually she begrudgingly accepted the idea and we decided to get a dog from the shelter. Neither of us has a single regret now. Mesa was about a year old when we adopted here. She's very gentle and extremely smart. She's been one of the most trainable dogs I've ever had. I think her vocabulary may be better than mine. I hate to think of what might have happened to her if we hadn't shown up. The shelters are packed full of good pets just waiting to be given a chance.

My condolences to you for the loss of your pet. I hope that you can come to grips with your grief soon. Many of us here have gone through the pain of losing a loved pet, be it a dog, cat, horse, etc. I had to have my 13 year old boxer put down about 4 years ago while I shuddered and wailed. Seems like it affects me more each time I lose another one; don't know if it's old age or just an accumulation of heartache from each one that I have to let go.

adding my condolences from Western NY. Since wifie/me been together since '77, we've lost 5 dogs, most were "free to good home" from show litters, each around 6yrs old when got 'em. At our age, no way puppy. No pets at present, can't afford to give same a good home

John, very sorry to hear it. Missing them is the price we pay for when they are in our lives. The word "pet" just doesn't convey the bond we feel for our furry buddies. I still get a pang when I think of the ones who have gone before.
It's alright, we are allowed.
