Got my Stieb sidehack mounted to my '59 R60/2 today and took it out for it's maiden ride since I've gotten it running! It all still needs it's pinstripping but that's scheduled for next mo! Spent 3 hours relearning hack driving ( gotta watch those quick right hand turns with an empty hack !) and had a blast! Pissed off some bubba's in their pick-em ups as I took up a complete lane and they couldn't get by a hack rig !

Tempting, but Fort Stockton sucks most any time of the year. In winter, eeewwwww!
I have only been there in summer. Kinda warm.
The nice white haired ladies running the gift shop at the Fort museum were still wearing their little white sweaters. Bless their hearts.
The fine manners of real Texans are something which makes me proud to be American.

There's actually a fort there? I never stuck around long enough to find out about local points of interest.

Been through there...about 60 times and never noticed the fort...if there is one. Never checked out the history so I am still, as usual, lost.

G My stripe painter took this pic of my BMW! The hack was removed so he could paint stuff on the right side of the bike and he's working on it now!

I put the new Mustang passenger backrest on the Wing today, and it really put up a fight. Couldn't find the special bolt for the driver's cup holder so I had to put a new one on. R&R the seat for the sheepskin holding straps, and cleaned up some chrome and then some "Back to Black". High was 50 today so I had the heater on in the garage.

I need to get a new picture of my trike. It's got a little more chrome and a little more rake than the last picture I posted. I want to get rid of the shaggy sheepskin and get a sheared one. The long hair mats down.

That is Beautiful. What year? It's a 1965 R50/2 in Dover White . I had a 1971 R60/5, a little more modern that yours but similar in many ways. What a civilized motorcycle they were then. The engineering was so thoughtful. So well made. I just loved mine. I had to return to the German gal who brought it over from the old country years ago. She wanted it back and I could not refuse her request. I sure miss it.

Honda made a mid-sized bike for a couple of years with a toaster shaped tank. I here that it was a good bike but didn't sell. What motorcyclist wouldn't love a 450cc 4 cylinder classic style Honda standard?

On the BMW, drive shaft vs chain was the selling point wasn't it?

On the BMW, drive shaft vs chain was the selling point wasn't it? Pretty much. I've had 3 beemers and never had a problem one with the drive shaft. It provided a smooth, quiet ride.

The drive shaft, low center of gravity and overall quality of construction.

The drive shaft, low center of gravity and overall quality of construction. That is it for me. Gladly own another. I certainly enjoy the nimbleness of British designs but for long distance cruising, a BMW is just great.

The first maintenance besides oil changes on the Gold Wing is less than $300 at 24k miles. The minimum required maintenance on the GS 1200 is $250 every 6k miles. In a hundred thousand miles, the Gold Wing maintenance is $1200, and for the GS, 4250. Also, the ones made since the early 90s aren't dependable at all. bmwr1200gsservicehistory.blogspot.com/

Still riding to work ... 46°F this morning wasn't too bad at all and taking the bike makes me look forward to the ride home. Looks like much cooler temps and rain later this week so "Little Red" (Focus SVT) will get some cruising time. It IS nice to sit back in the heated space and sip coffee. LOL
