Same goes for the cars since the early '80s. I was thinking about my 1968 BMW 1600. What a nice simple car that was. I sure loved it. I had a '70 2002 tii . What a screamer! Was the only BMW car I had and I looooved it !

Still riding to work ... 46°F this morning wasn't too bad at all and taking the bike makes me look forward to the ride home. Looks like much cooler temps and rain later this week so "Little Red" (Focus SVT) will get some cruising time. It IS nice to sit back in the heated space and sip coffee. LOL I have an extra brand new cup holder for the Wing if you want it say the word.

LOL We rode last Saturday and it was 40 when we left the house. We were supposed to ride to a wolf sanctuary this morning but no one signed up. I had planned to go but after the wreck I wasn't ready to get back on the trike. I have the clothes for it, but I do wish I could find my chaps. 1/8 inch leather keeps the weather under control.

At the time I had the 1600, one of my housemates had a 1970 2002, not the tii but with twin Weber carbs. It was fairly quick car. Both certainly handled well.

I missed the story of the wreck but hope you're feeling better soon! Not much to tell. A "woman" ran a red light and totaled my truck. I hope never to do that! My Ford weighs just over 4 tons empty and has a very stout front bumper for the elk. If I center punched a car by running a Red light, it would not be good. This past week I had two elderly pedestrians pop out from behind a car stopped in the cross-walk. I was just able to stop without hitting them. Even with anti-lock brakes, I lost traction. In town I am as careful as possible.

It's funny. I had a 76 E-350 custom van. Beautiful sunburst paint, velor seats and curtains, and sink, refrigerator and bar, a table and a bed of course. Gold tinted windows, 22 inch chrome aluminum wheels, 16 speaker sound system and more. I got a steal on it as the dealer made a mistake and the sales manager really wanted my 73 pickup trade in. It was brilliant pulling my custom metal flake ski boat. But I kept having nightmares of looking down into a station wagon full of kids that I had just t-boned. I actually sold it and went too far the other way by buying a 76 Honda Civic. But I cared less about what might happen to me than the dreams of hitting children.

Not a fan of having opposed cylinders sticking out like a wedding night erection.

That BMW motor looks amazing...imagine the throb of that engine winding up! Maybe, unlike the HDs, they don't throb...have no idea, only the mental picture.

They say that riding the Kawasaki 2 liter twin is quite an experience.

A neighbor of mine has one. It is a gigantic motorcycle. Fortunately, he has never dropped it. He and the missus do a lot of cruising on interstate freeways, so I guess that works well for him. 90 MPH across NM and AZ on their way to Las Vegas.

In the 50 I wanted the Mustang bike, but in the Sixties I wanted both a Sportster, or a Triumph Bonneville. Then an XKE.

That Jag. was a beautiful car...only problem was that nuts and bolts would drop on the road as you drove it. Had a friend (a Dupont) who had 2 and both got wrecked...one was his fault and the last was parked at the curb when another car t-boned it and crushed it at the curb. He crashed a plane too.

About 30 years ago there was a local company that specialized in rebuilding XKEs with a small block Chevy engine, American 4-speed trans and new electrical systems. They were very popular for a while.

Ditto the tranny and electric overdrive. The weakness was everything made by the Joeseph Lucas Company.

From all reports the Chevy/Jag hybrid was a great driving and dependable car. I had a British car for 2 weeks before I returned it. My buddy had a Sprite that left us stranded more often than it got us to our destination. The new Triumph motorcycles and Indian Royal Enfields show what they can do when they pay attention to quality control. I had a teacher in junior high school that had a candy apple red XKE that he only drove once a month. His daily driver was a Volvo. Like so many beautiful Italian cars that were great to look at and for the occasional joy ride.
