The usual New Years resolution bug has hit and I am striving to become healthier for my family and for myself. I started out at 350llbs, high blood pressure, anxiety just to name a few. I am going to be calorie counting and cutting soda and bread from my diet. I am also beginning the gym 1/5. I will update once a week to keep track with everyone as so motivation for my self.

You can do it, buddy. I've lost 5 lbs (but the first 4 were cheating - I weighted myself after eating to get my t=0 weight, then I weighed myself the following morning).

Way to go. I lost 6 pounds from before Thanksgiving until today so I am hoping that I can continue to lose weight. I will be good if I can lose 50 lbs, but 70 would be better. I don't mind keeping a little weight on in case I get sick.

I don't recommend it as a weight-loss alternative though.

In my current state I could waste away for a year before I would have a problem. I would like to keep a one month reserve.

Sugar and Carbs are bad guys +1 ... never dropped weight faster than on a low carb intake. (65 pounds)

Potatoes are worse than pouring white sugar in your mouth and rice is not far behind. I think it helps if you only eat grains that take forever to cook. No instant oatmeal or minute rice that kind of stuff. If you must have bread make sure it is worth it like from a bakery and not from a plastic bag. A lot of things that say sugar free still trick your body into making insulin and storing fat. One free day a week makes a diet tolerable. Good Luck.

Make sure you don’t get locked into a long term deal with the gym, the consumer advocate on the local news says that most people drop going after 3 months.... but many people sign up for the “killer deal” that has a one year obligation.
Gyms are notorious for insisting on auto pay from your checking account and then they are harder to get rid of than bedbugs.

They are becoming more popular.

When we first moved to Humble, I signed up for a private athletic club at $108/mo plus a $180 initial fee. This included a private trainer for three months. I had issues with the $9/mo gyms with dirty, broken equipment and whirling pools of sweat and piss. It was nice, but I still couldn't make myself go. The trainer kept calling me for months. If you have a place like this near you I recommend checking it out. There's a reason why all those gyms are so cheap and still make money.

I have a second generation Bowflex. It's dated, back in the day stuff now. I scored it for $400 used (estate) on Craig's list about ten years ago. I work out now with what I used to warm up. It's basically just a 15-20 minute stretch out with as much resistance as my old body will handle these days. I'm not worried about muscle anymore, just trying to keep what's left in some kind of decent tone.

Support is very helpful. So is a change in mindset for long term success. People eat over issues, so keep in mind, "It's not what you're eating, it's what's eating you."

Anyone ever found a Gym that charges by the visit?..I haven't. Our local gym will if you talk to them but its not worth it really. They have modern equipment with a steam room, showers and more for only $30 a month and no contract.
