So I have a cold. Can anybody recommend some tobaccos that would still taste decent, whether during the mostly-stuffed phase or the getting-over phase?

Just got over a cold myself and smoked mostly Lat forward tobaccos. I couldn't taste any ARO's, the Latakia I could taste.

Zicam nose swabs and The Country Squire Second Breakfast.
Zicam stops the virus from replicating. Every other remedy just works on symptoms but does not to stop a cold from progressing.

For tobacco use, switch over to mentholated snuff ... clears you right up!

I'm usually a wimp when I have a cold... don't even think about smoking... lay in bed and read and sleep.

When I have a cold, definitely no smoking here. Not worth choking even more! I rarely get a cold but when I do it’s a “ lollapalooza “, an old expression.

Have a soda cracker or two doused with Tabasco or horseradish, then blow your nose when it begins to run. Get a smoke in- Repeat. haha

I remember the taste of cigarettes when I had a cold. Not good tasting. It's the same with Vapes. I've had one cold during my most recent foray into piping (knock on wood), during which I didn't smoke. If I wanted to have a pipe, I'd probably go with something like Carter Hall. But, if I wanted nicotine, 5 Brothers.

Vaping sucked with a cold. I kept cinnamon and strong menthol around for that.
I'm not sure about a pipe, i didnt bother with it when I had my last cold. I could have filled it full of oak leaves and it would have tasted the same to me.
But a neti pot and highland ice snuff are sure to clear up those nasal passages.

I recently had a small cold that once gone (for the most part) was left with having to blow my nose here and there, my sense of smell gone along with taste. For two weeks those senses were dead to me. As such, smoking was a no go. No point in smoking my pipe if I cant enjoy its pleasures.
If you can find a way to enjoy it, more power to ya.

Not sure about the snuff, but the neti pot is the business! It's good for prevention as well. I haven't been sick in a while, knock on briar, but I always like a big bowl of Pho when I do. Feel better!

That is the time for a bowl of Black X or Brown Boogie. They will open you up then knock you out.

Whenever I have a cold, which is a rare thing for me, only a Lat. bomb provides any taste. YMMV!

I have a nasty sinus cold right now and was without a pipe since Saturday morning. Couldn't help myself and had to fire one up today. Loaded some 1Q and sure all the flavors were not there, but some were and it sure did hit the spot. Retro-haling seemed to open up my sinuses even more.

Personally I don't smoke a pipe when I'm in the thick of a cold or when my nose is jacked. Once I start to come out of it, I usually smoke whatever has been drying out in my pouch for the time I was sick.. then I start hitting the Latakia blends I may not smoke too often. If the flavors aren't all there for me, oh well, at least it's not a favorite blend I'm missing out on.

I had my first pipe in several days last night. I couldn't taste a whole lot, but it didn't taste bad. And just the act of relaxing on the patio in the evening and having a bowl again was a joy. I may be a little different, but smoking a pipe for me is as much about the process as it is the tobacco it's self.

I’m mostly over the cold now. Sense of smell is slowly returning. So far I’ve got back the ability to enjoy English, LBF and about 50-75% enjoyment from Silver Flake and cigars.

Smoking a pipe when you have a cold and can't taste anything is a waste of time and tobacco. The thing to do is clean all your pipes so when your cold clears up you'll be ready for action.
