Is he...gone...?

I've often wondered what happens to folks when they disappear from the 'Patch. Have we offended them? Have they passed? Did they get bored? We'll probably never know. Used to happen at the old ASP (alt.smokers.pipes) too... I suppose it's a reality of online society.

Just a thought... I'm about a 4hr drive from the Washington state border. Depending on where he lives, I could do an impromptu drive to the home and perform a door knock. If someone has his name and addy, I could check this out.
I did look at PSD and performed a member search without success...

Those guys just stuck in my head.

I've been a member of gun forums, Ford forums, fishing forums and the like. Just thinking what I would do if someone came to my door asking why I'm not posting on a forum anymore.........

I wouldnt mind if someone walked up and asked where I've been. It would most likely end up as 2 people sitting on the porch, smoking a pipe and chatting. I consider many folks here as friends anyway.
I also understand that people dont always like to be "bothered."
From the post that @truculentfrogs made while he was here, I'd expect him to be a friendly guy, not one to come out with a shotgun pointed at your chest. You never know though.

I've known the frog miester here and on another forum too. He's a good person. As you and others here may know, there're numerous reasons a member may terminate posting on a forum. That's just what it is. However, I would be more concerned with the health and well-being of a member, and not "why they stopped posting," and being close-by to where Mike lives, it would be an easy drive for me. I enjoy driving. I'm also a semi-retired fraud investigator, and have a keen knack for tracking an individual (with the proper date base tools). In Mikes case, a simple telephone call probably would be all that would be necessary to ascertain his well-being. And the answer to your question: I'm not joking

Over the years, on a variety of forums I have come to the conclusion that interests wane, priorities dictate ability to contribute, and a whole host of other reasons.
In the pipe club meetings, we have had people come that had great personalities, said that they really enjoyed themselves, and looked forward to future meetings... they attend a few, only to be never heard from again. And their names are on email the distribution list for pipe events...periodically, I ask people to notify me if they would like their names dropped... never hear a word back.
That is disappointing, just not knowing the why... but you can’t lose sleep over it.
I pm’ed Truc... will let you guys know if I get a response from Mike.

I’ve sent two PM’s to Mike aka truculentfrogs in the past 2 months with no response. We had PM’d prior. I’ve posted this same question a few times prior. Hope Mike is doing well.
We’ve not heard from antb from the Dark Continent for quite some time. A few others as well.

You're a good guy.

Although they live out in the country, his wife teaches in town. She packs, and he tells her to never hesitate to drop the hammer. They are looking for a new place in Namibia.

I know people come and go within most forums, but it’s not like Ant NOT to post on his daily work breaks and smoke before his ride home.

Theres probably a much more mundane explanation. I've felt more exposed, and at risk in Birmingham( England, just to be clear),than I ever felt in SA(apologies to any Brummies in the house)

Not to drag the gun debate into the thread, just to caution that danger lurks in places you never expect...I hope AntB fares well.

I know Mike aka truculentfrogs from another pipe forum where I was not Lonecoyote. He was always active, like here on the Patch. It’s not like a member here with 3,200 plus posts just disappears for no reason. We get MANY new members here on the Patch that post less than 100 times who are never heard from again, that I totally understand. Not like Mike to disappear without a message within the open forum.

Point taken Ted,but remember South Africa is a country with rolling electrical blackouts amongst other issues...

I look at various fora every day. But I rarely sign on anymore unless I feel that I have something to add to the discussion that is different from what has already been posted. Some days, there's nothing that interests me. After a certain length of time you realize that the threads are becoming retreads. Also, when I'm working, time is often in short supply.

I look forward to reading your posts/threads, you have much to offer this forum as well as other pipe forums. Even though I’m enjoying a pipe for 50 plus years, I’ve learned much from your well written posts.

Ant owns a few pipes that Charl made for him.

I agree...just the contributions on Barlings is enough to give him Pipe Professorial status.

I have been on a lot of gun forums, and I have never seen anyone that I thought I would like in person, unlike the pipe forums.
