Just wondering what/if most Patchers use to keep track of all the Pipe Tobacco they have cellared? Was hoping to find an existing template that I could use in my computer.

It's all in a couple of drawers. Sometimes I rummage through it.

(1) Buy tobacco (2) Label month/year bought (3) Keep quantity inventory (4) Throw in storage bin (5) Forget about it until later when they have made our hobby illegal, or to help a fellow patcher in need
...repeat

I moved my modest cellar to 3 tubs I got at Walmart. After the last hurricane and I had to move fast, I put everything into 3 tubs (12" H X 24" L X 14" Deep) then I made a word doc. listing what was in each tub. That way when I have to move quick I can pick up all three tubs and stack them in the back of my truck along with a tub for all my pipes. I can move everything in about 10 minutes if I have to. I have a number of ceramic jars that I have bulk in, so it makes it heavier than it needs to be. But it is what it is and I'm not gonna change it out and have more expense by buying large jars.

Excel Spreadsheets work well for meπ Very simple to use and update. Thanks Ted. Yeah, I did that, but had a weird hard drive failure and lost the file (didn't back up ugh). So just trying to figure out something that might be safer . . . for me. LOL
Wonder if anyone has used the online "Pipe Tool"?

I know that I am old...and old people think differently than young ones do...would you list all your firearms on-line? No...I didn't think so.
To partially quote Ted...I'm a private person, donβt care for disclosing my pipes and tobaccoβs on other public sites.
But that is just me. This electronic age is getting a little too close for comfort...what do you think, Ted?

If I get on your β network β I can over ride administrative ( with a software program ) rights and not only get what IP address your using at the time. I can also obtain your devices MAC address. Your IP address will change depending on what network your on. You MAC address is assigned to a motherboard/logic board. Itβs possible to get hacked or even piggybacked.

at my age & near useless on anything on the "inner computer", plenty of yellow legal pads & pens. Down to 3 un-opened 8oz cans, 4 50gr cans left + what's opened. Even if could find a 6th grader wiz bang, probably wouldn't have a clue about any of above "programs". Everything on a complex cell phone they do. In good control of my doings

Dang it! I just spent the last hour and a half putting all my tobaccos in on Tobaccocellar.com, only to find this much more modern website! Now I know what I'm doing tomorrow afternoon... Edit: Turns out if you download your cellar from Tobaccocellar.com in txt format, change the file extension to csv, it will import into The Pipe Tool with minimal problems!

Too much work for me to do.
If I was going to, it would just be easier keeping a notebook or journal, put it in pencil and adjust the amounts each time you pull a jar or tin.

I buy what I like and throw it in the closet. Sometimes I remember what's there, sometimes no. Last year I found two pounds of Penzance from 2007 in the back that I don't remember buying. I can tell how many pounds I have buy counting jars and tins.

Some of us are just nerds, though! I like databases and lists, and Excel is one of my favorite programs. I've been on a weight loss journey over the past year and have logged and graphed my weight loss, and have even used Excel to fit an equation to the graph curve so I can estimate my future weight at any given time.

I have been using tobaccocellar.com for years. Not perfect, but I like being able to refer to it quickly from my phone if I am away from my computer.
You can set your cellar to private on the site (how "private" is debatable, but that's not a big concern for me).
Site also allows you to download a backup, which I highly recommended you do often.

Too much tech for me. I've never even owned a computer. That's impressive. Never found the need. Got an android phone a couple of years ago for online orders and found pipe forums. Other than forum chat, shopping sites, Wikipedia, and youtube, I don't use the internet much. I don't do facebook or the other big social media.

I don't do facebook or the other big social media. You're not missing much. And, as mgtarheel just wrote...a notebook and pencil is as good a job as any to keep an inventory. However, in Duane's case, you'd go through quite a few pencils.
