Well coffee is bad, then good, then bad again and I recently heard hot tea is bad for you as well.
I'll continue to drink them all and enjoy my occasional glass of bourbon.
Oh! And my pipe too!! lol

Man is the only species living on this planet that fights to ignore the first rule of nature - all things eventually die.

40 years ago doc ran a bunch of tests. He told me that due to some inherited conditions I shouldn't drink alcohol.I haven't drank since then.Several other doctors over the years have also told me that as well.

Moderation in research leads to funding scarcity. A corollary to that is that it's very difficult to get someone to understand a problem when their salary depends on not understanding it!

I shall continue my almost daily glass of whiskey or Gin. I take a break and do not imbibe every now and then just to prove I can.

I have seen too many times where whether from rich donors or corporate interests, or political lines of distribution, the reasearchers understand the needs of those that butter the bread. One billionaire in particular is funding a wing of a major university on a subject that defines who he is. Mick Jagger is a health nut, has zero body fat, works out, doesn’t smoke, gave up drinking etc...he just had heart surgery. Keith Richards has ingested every drug known to man in massive quantities, wakes up to a beer and chain smokes cigarettes... yeah Keith is a rare bird, but genetics plays a part.

Red wine was touted as an antioxidant and heart-healthy drink just a couple of years ago. Fat was supposed to be the big killer, now it's sugar and carbs.

Don't forget Aspirin. After decades, the dose of 1 baby aspirin at bedtime has now been withdrawn for Seniors.

...like it or not, you gotta die from something. I pay little attention to these "studies." You get what you get and you're not going to live forever...

Moderation in research leads to funding scarcity. "Don't drink, don't dance, what do you do?" Join The World Health Organization. I believe in moderation, not prohibition.

I reckon that seeing that group is like being ushered into the Star Wars Bar scene... they are a scandal ridden bunch of scumbags that somehow have domestic politicians think that they are wise sages on a global scale as they adopt their policies.

Anyone subject to the big cranberry scare in the early 60's? I relished my cranberry sauce and jelly even more that year.

But the politicians all won woody awards as they allowed these simpletons to plead their case.... stupidity on parade.

Like many have stated, I believe moderation is the key. I have genetically high cholesterol, did I stop enjoying the occasional side of bacon with my eggs...HELLL NO!!! LOL! Enjoy your life while you have it, eat, drink, smoke, dance, love, kickass and enjoy the ride!

Cranberries!! (not the band) Yes, IIRC, A week before Thanksgiving long long ago, a report came out saying that cranberries would cause cancer. I cried BS! And ate more than usual.
A few weeks later, it was retracted - the study that is- as one would have to eat 40 pounds a week for several years, and even then.....

I have cranberry sauce and/ or juice 4-7 times a week. I regard it as an undeclared Super Food and it puts the kabosh on kidney stones.

The alcohol lobby is extremely well-funded.
80,000 Americans die every year from alcohol consumption, but the media is filled with puff pieces about red wine being good for your heart.
Thank god even one study made a headline.
The truth is ugly. Alcohol is an addictive carcinogen that damages just about every organ in the body.
It's also a hell of a good party.

First it's tobacco, now it's alcohol, next it will be peanut butter and jelly sandwiches...WTF!!! It already is. Kids today can't even take a PB&J for lunch because of the small risk of someone else being allergic to peanuts. It's this reverse rule making that drives me nuts. (Pun intended) Rather than restrict the 99% crowd, tell the 1% to use their heads and stay away from public eating places that might KILL them. Oh, sorry, there I go interjecting common sense again.

The problem with society is that they get their health information off the 6 o' clock news. Their doctors get it from there too or from their drug dealer that shows up once a week to peddle his big pharma wares. I have always read medical journals for my health info ( weird, I know). Some tidbits: Aspirin has never been shown with any degree of certainty to prevent a primary heart attack. But it does lead to a 6 fold increase in strokes. This info has been known since the 80's. Doctors are pretty much boobs when it comes to doing anything proactive. This entire "take a baby aspirin to prevent a heart attack" probably came from Doctor's knowing that aspirin prevents a secondary heart attack so by their faulty logic..it must also prevent a primary heart attack too. How many people have they killed with that logic?
Fat has never been bad for you... unless you believe the 6'o clock news or your doctor. It has always been carbs!.. the sugar industry is as powerful as they come. Fat "IS" bad for you if you consume it with carbs. Again, the faulty logic with doctors. And the BS that complex carbs are good... carbs are carbs!.. They all raise your blood sugar. How many diabetic people die every-year because their moron doctor/nutritionist put them on a diet that contains carbs? A diabetic cannot process carbs! they are poison, yet doctors/nutritionists always recommend them in the form of "complex carbs". If you had lung cancer do you think your doctor would recommend cutting back to a pack a day? Or if you had liver disease do you think your doc would tell you to cut back to just a few shots of whiskey? I think not, because those are poisons to lung cancer/liver disease patients but for some strange reason doctors tell diabetics to eat carbs (poison).
End of rant...

Along the lines of what Dramatwist said above, the fact of the matter is, "birth is the leading cause of death." Or, as my father said, " If I give up everything that makes me want to live to a hundred, I might live to a hundred, but what's the point then?"
