We now have the largest trade deficit in history with China and now he wants to add 25% tariff to everything brought here from China.
My son started out having his speakers made in Tennessee. They cost 150.00 each and had a 30% failure rate. He now has them made overseas for 50.00 with less than 1% failure rate. America is not the greatest in the world.
Things have changed. I use to be a UAW member when I worked for McDonnell Douglas and were always encouraged to buy American.

I agree we are in an undeclared trade wat with China, but it’s nothing to get over. This will definitely have a severe ripple effect on our economy.

This will definitely have a severe ripple effect on our economy. It will cost some people a lot of money. We will have food and electricity and gasoline and all the necessities of life. We may have to pay a fair price for some junk that we can live without. Compared to doing nothing, I prefer using our economic clout instead of provoking a shooting war. We won't have the kind of rationing that we had during WWII. Most of the stuff I get from China I regret buying anyway. Edit Ted, I didn't say "trade war". I said WAR.

I’m not going to get into any political ramifications on here. I too can definitely live just fine without purchasing anything “ made in China “. Apple already figured out a way of getting their iPhones & iPads into the States without the 25% effecting their business.

I forgot about Hytest boots. My dad wore them for years and when I worked at a factory I wore them also. They were pretty durable and comfortable.

Imagine if we started making products here and people had worthwhile jobs. American ingenuity begets invention or has everyone forgotten how we became the world leader in the standard of living. We can continue buying cheap products until one day our pockets are empty and then what. America has become a nation of spoiled children living life vicariously through a cell phone.

Both sides of the political aisle have whored themselves out to China for decades, and China smartly took advantage of them...the losers are us.

The Red Wings I am wearing now are 7 years old and in good shape. Chippewas seem more comfortable but the soles dont last as long for me. It is like they are a softer material.

Ok, back to shoes. This is a thread I wish I would have skipped.

Anybody here remember when a door to door salesperson came to your home, measured your feet and in a week or two your “ Knapp “ shoes or boots were delivered and fitted perfectly to your feet?? I still own a pair, 3/4 boot, full thick leather with steal toe. Haven’t worn them in a few years but about every 6 months they get a leather & saddle soap treatment. Still in good condition, that’s when American products were made with pride👌👍👍 I see that pride coming back with a number of American corporations!! For over 35 years, Knapp shoes were all I ever wore. Best ever shoe for me.

Bought a pair of Red Wing boots about 6 weeks ago they have hurt the bottom of my feet on my left heel ever since I put them on I took them back to the place I bought them they replaced them still These Boots hurt my feet call Red Wing and they said tough crap so I will never ever buy another pair of Red Wings as long as I live and I'm only 53 so I figure I've got about 80 years left of my life I've had nothing but bad luck with RedWing shoes since the 1980's. That being said. I'm forced to use RedWing for my work boot. I have to have composite toe due to working around heavy parts and also working around electricity. Good luck! I'd rather have the Timberline brand

Progress forward slash performance update
After the first day of wearing the Timberland Pros with the anti fatigue insoles, I have to report that these boots are pretty awesome. They are the eight inch lace ups which are a little bit tall for me. I normally wear a 5 or 6 but they do not seem to be giving any problems at all. So far I love these boots and we'll buy another pair.

Sorry to hear that Jack. I think I'm the one who told you to try them. They are the only work boots I wear. I get a good 10 years + out of them. Resole them an I'm good to go. Customer did you wrong, luckily I've never had to use it. No problem at all, you have to try out several different pairs of boots before you find the ones that fit you just right. When I bought the new boots I actually bought a pair of very very thick badass insoles for the Red Wings and will keep them as an emergency backup in the work van

Glad you found a pair that work for you Jack. Nothing worse than being on your feet all day in a pair of uncomfortable boots.

Now all that is left is to slather them up with mink oil so they last longer.

I've got a pair of RW Iron Rangers that are taking a little while to break in. They feel good though. Fortunately, no issues with sore feet or ankles. The one thing that amused me was getting fitted at their store. They had a high dollar fitting machine that showed your shape, pressure points, everything. He told me I would get a 10 1/2. Normally I wear a 9 1/2, maybe a 10 now and then. After lacing them up tight my heel still had play in the boot. So did the 10s. Finally the 9 1/2 was snug. He still felt 10 1/2 was the way to go. Um...no.

I have some of the easiest feet to buy shoes and boots for, 10 1/2 90% of the time with me just asking for a pair of known manufacturers without trying them on and walking out the store with them. There are brands I’ve not tried before which I do try on, did not like how the Redwings I tried on fit so I went with Chippewa and have been happy with them for 41 years, my hunting pair is 40 years old! banjo

Um...no. The nice thing about Red Wings back in the day, the store in Fremont Ca. would measure each foot...deviation in foot size is not unheard of, and if you have a bunion on one foot, a wider boot can help prevent that bunion from becoming a surgical reality. "If you have to "break in a Pair of boots", them boots do not fit your feet" said the proprietor as he educated me. He would take one boot from one box, one from another and he would ship the mismates back to Red Wing Mn. as the happy camper (me) went on m way. "And when you need new laces, replacement laces are complimentary for my customers." I had sole separation once after six months, and he handed me a new pair and told me that that was unacceptable failure.... Depending on your working conditions...the salesman might have been wanting you to compensate for swelling in the heat...hence the larger size...possibly.
I hope that the local proprietor that I had the bad run in with was an isolated incident, sad that he failed me and the corporate office did so.

It's nice to hear about good customer service nowadays. It's a dying thing it seems. I can't answer to what my salesman had in mind with his suggestions. But I've found, at least for me, any type of boot I've ever owned, the leather stretched with time and the insides will form to my foot. These are getting there so I'm good with my purchase. Just sorry to hear so many people having issues with a once great company.

I always wanted a pair of Red Wing Iron Ranger boots. The $314 price tag has always deterred me. One of these days....
