Im curious about the blend and the packaging and how much it will cost because I feel like the packaging will certainly up that price.
I hate to sound negative but I feel its a marketing ploy. I understand that due to the grade of tobacco and age the cost will be at a certain level but why add to the cost with a mini humidor?

You will find no argument with me on that point, Scott...couldn’t agree more.

It was nice to see MarkinOR's valid criticism in the comments box. A valued member who contributed much to the Patch.

Wasnt Samuel Gawith involved in the earlier 4th Generation Virginias? I dont know that I would pay a premium given the relatively low price of FVF, I guess I will have to see how it pans out. The packaging is definitely going to add some additional cost... Some of my favorite tobaccos come to me in a plastic bag, fancy packaging doesn't matter to me.

A lot of marketing ploys out there in tobacco, and pipes, especially. Limited editions, special packaging. etc. I figure it this way, I know companies have to market and that's fine, but if I want the product for its inherent value, I'll get it, even with the marketing ploy. Otherwise, I won't let the packaging sway me, I just won't buy it. But you have to admit, a marketing ploy makes a drab web page look more interesting.

Yeah I just saw the lower price and made an edit. Im very curious but I'm not sure if I can pull the trigger on this. I'm debating myself at this very moment.

Same boat. Right now I'm not tempted enough. I can get a pound of 515-RC for the same price and be 100% happy.
As always, that could change in the next few hours.

Yeesh. That's a spicy meatball! Er, umm, that's expensive. Want, but don't want. That's a "put it away" kind of thing, and I'm not good at that.

Perfect. I had some other stuff loaded up in my cart. Adding a couple of tins of this got me free shipping.

As you know, Josh...you have some well aged McClelland Cheer as well as others, waiting for you and you know where you can get it...no reason to spend extra just to get a fancy tin.

The 4th Generation "Blend of the Year" came in a small humidor as well. Good smoke and the box was well crafted. It now holds snuff.

I was sent a "blend of the year" for secret santa this year. I still havent tried it. It's in the "I'll get around to it" pile. The box is really nice. It's funny how my brain sees $21 and $26 and thinks it's too high, but at $20 I'm considering it. I dont see it landing on my door step anytime soon. There are too many Virginia that I know that I like. Also, Cliff, I greatly appreciate your generosity. There really is no need to send me anything, I'm just doing my best as an "enabler" to make sure my comrades get the best deal But if you insist, I'll send you my address. I dont recall ever saying no to pipe tobacco

In for two, but with what I have in my cellar, it'll have about 50 years on it, before I get to it

I like some others, think the price is a little bit high to be purchasing a little wooden box. If I’m not mistaken in the interview on smoking pipes.com. Erik even says that if you’re going to cellar it for any length of time it should probably be jarred up. I may be wrong on this. Have to watch it again. But I still have 2 sitting in the cart. LOL

The 4th-Generation ten year leaf aging process is likely much different than the jar-aging process we would employ, so I would think that the outcome in flavor characteristics will be different than what is packaged now. Perhaps smoother, rounder, deeper, sweeter, etc, altogether or in part and to some degree... or not, IDK. My three tins, (maintained in their original gold leaf paper-wrapped tobacco, sans tin), will be neatly jarred so that the newly introduced aerobic and moisture environment can do some magic (as jarring tends to do), with fingers crossed.
