I just read that the surplus ammo is all gone. Lots of commercial M2 available, if you want fmj. I can't find any Garand hunting loads.

I bought a few crates of Greek Ball at .33 cents per round that I still have, at the time I thought it was a kings ransom. I will be at the second amendment foundation conference in PHX later this weekend and will hopefully talk to the lobbyists and movers and shakers in the military surplus importation. The last time that it was here was in September 2008, and they warned of the imprnding changes looming on the political horizon... they were spot on.

I had several five round clips for the M1 to make it hunter legal in California. I used standard Remington 150 grain softpoint with no ill effects. It is a heavy rifle to haul up and down hills in pursuit of game but it does give one a sense of how it was for the GIs.

The Lake City stuff is at the gun shows here. I still see it at about 80 cents per round. Not so much from online vendors. It is so easy to load, I would just pick up a bunch of brass and go to town with a good single stage press. The Federal commercial stuff is great, by the way. Great brass and consistent load. About $1.20 a round though. Ammogarand.com has some decent options. The PRVI Partizan ammo is very good. I have always had great results with their ammunition. Well made fodder. Sellier & Bellot also still loads M2 ammunition. They make great ammo as well.

I am a Patron member of the NRA, and today I just renewed my membership in the GOA and JFPO. I will be seeing Charles Heller of the JPFO this weekend. The SAF conference is in Phoenix this year, Charles lives down in Tucson... last time I saw him he was handing me an AR that I won in an AZCDL raffle that he also is affiliated with.

The last two make the NRA seem like a Bloomberg organization. The JFPO is dead serious. Jews For the Preservation of firearm Ownership. I encourage anyone who likes their guns to join both, in addition to their state Rifle Association.

I know the NRA is, rightly, catching flak for LaPierreβs shenanigans, and a lot of good people have left. However Iβm still upgrading my Patron membership to a Benefactor one because the NRA is still the 1,000lb gorilla in the room. A lot of good rank and file people doing good work. We canβt cut our nose of to spite our face.

Line of dialogue heard on Wagon Train today: "He's such a good shot, he could shoot fleas off a running dog."

I just read that Colt is suspending production of the AR-15 for the domestic market..They will continue to make them for the police and military. Itβs true. Their statement made it sound as if it is an issue of manufacturing capacity. They want to be able to get as many rifles into the hands of LE and Mil as soon as possible. But, with their history of political choices and the current anti-2A hysteria, the timing is more than a bit odd. They were good choices for a hard use carbine on a budget but honestly there are better options out there, so Iβm not too upset.

Colt has depended on the government since day one. Both the USA and the Republic of Texas. The Texas contracts saved the company as the Texians were the largest purchaser of the Colt Patterson.

As for revolvers,!? π, I would love to see someone perfect the Circuit Judge double action revolving carbine. The Taurus rifle just had too many bugs and loose tolerances. The forcing cone would hold an entire 44 mag cartridge. If Ruger made one on the Redhawk frame I would be sorely tempted.

^^ not quite on target but have been trying to talk myself into Uberti's 1858 model 44 cal and their 1858 44 cal carbine, simple, somewhat easy to load (home made black powder, lead & tin. Looks good on the wall and works well in the woods......thoughts anyone?

I let my daughter take just about all the firearms. I kept the 30-30 saddle gun and the big Mauser 98 and a 22 and 410 snake charmer. That is all the long arms I need as I no longer hunt. I need another Makarov or Cz as I am sitting on a ton of 9x18. You can not beat a Makarov you can coat it in mud and it will still fire. Ugly as sin but one of the best pistols ever made.

I bet it feels like a bomb going off in your hands. I think if I owned it I'd stick to shooting 45 long Colt in it.

PS That site has the long barrel for the same price. If I could find the least excuse I would buy one of the long ones.
