I have one revolver, a (Uberti) 1858 Remington New Model Army .44 caliber BP. My gt gt grandfather carried one during the American Civil War. Sweet.

That's why the Raging Bull weighs about 20 oz more. It weighs 4 to 16 ounces more, depending on whether the barrel is 4,6 or 8 inches. So, pretty good for off the top of my head, huh? So, you don't think an extra pound makes a big difference?

Specifically, he said the Toklat, which weighs 50oz. The Raging Bull 454 weighs 83 oz. So 2 lbs more. I was waaaay off. 😁😎🤠

I cannot remember his name, but an author in the 80’s wrote a novel that was a real game changer in how people viewed personal defense and the rtkba... he went on to have some huge caliber handguns for the life of me, I cannot remember his name or the book.
Something like Hoenlien, but I know that is not it.

Something like Hoenlien, but I know that is not it. I just read an article on Bloomberg about how the USA is the only country that currently has a constitutional protection of private gun ownership, and how several other countries like El Salvador, Guatemala, Ecuador, and Mexico had these provisions and have since removed them. Then, in a related article linked on the same page, they blame the criminal gangs intimidation of the populace on the flow of illegal arms from the US. Somehow they don't make the connection that the people are defenseless against the gangs because they have made self defense illegal. Or the corollary that if they disarm the citizens of the United States, then we would be at the mercy of armed thugs. How can an otherwise intelligent group of people decide to be purposely stupid on a single issue. They obviously don't have the welfare of others in mind.

I read a gun mag some time back where he was featured showing some handguns that had huuge bores, he must have wrists made of titanium.... He has some wonderful quotes on life... a brilliant man. www.goodreads.com/author/quotes/205.Robert_A_HeinleinI do disagree with him on matters of faith, but he has remarkable insights into the human condition.

‘66 was when I stopped wetting the bed. Me too! 😨🤤😎🤠 You need to start reading. Even his "kids" books are instructive of what's missing in society today. If he had lived to see our current culture he would have felt like a failure.

And this thread has drifted. I don't want it to get locked because it becomes the Second Ammendment discussion thread. OK?

And I never said about carrying it for bears. It's for going out to hunt, or for when you want just shoot a big-arse gun. If you want to argue that I am wrong, perhaps we should take this private. Never mind, a Texan couldn't convince a Coloradan that the sky is blue.

Ron, I was trying to be humorous with the 40" barrel comment, implying that an eight inch barrel is very, very long. I would just as soon carry a rifle as I would a five pound revolver. Your parting comment is dissappointing to say the least. I am going to assume the hot weather down there is making you fractious. I don't feel the need to take anything offline, nor would I if you asked.

This appears to be getting a little heated. I appreciate the attempts to diffuse this.
Again, this could be something that I, as a 'foreigner', don't understand, but can we try to move on, please?

To get back on track, I have two S & W wheelguns one is a model 686 7 shot .357 and the other is a model 940 that shoots 9mm. Love them both. the 940 is my carry gun.

All the time for me unless it's in a location that's not allowed … then it waits in the vehicle.

I'm British but a huge revolver guy. I've had three: a pre-Taurus M88 stainless snubbie in .38 standard pressure that became my best friend when I realized I'd just moved to a neighborhood with a lot of cops and gang signs. The apartment across the street sold drugs. Later I got a Taurus .357 7-shot snubbie my sculptor brother-in-law made cocobolo grips for he made from an impression of my hands, so they literally fit perfectly. Then I got a 4" Taurus .357 that didn't look pretty and blued like the picture, but flat black and nasty.
Biggest mistake was not picking up a 4" Smith & Wesson pinned and recessed .357 for $300. The bluing was deeep and gorgeous. Guy said it didn't look like it had shot more than a box of ammo.
Nice to see some .44 Specials on here.

Your parting comment is dissappointing to say the least. I am going to assume the hot weather down there is making you fractious. I don't feel the need to take anything offline, nor would I if you asked. don, I have reread the line of posts, and I posted my last one before you posted the one about was I trying to argue, which is what I thought thought you were doing. I agree with you on the rifle, and if I thought there was enough danger to endanger my wrist, I too would carry a rifle. My Winchester 94 weighs less than the Taurus. I was simply trying to say that I would only shoot that load in the Taurus. Some people shoot Buffalo Bore 300gr 44 magnums in a Smith 329. I only shot full power 44 Mag Remingtons in my 27 oz. snubbie once. I believe that we were just talking past each other in one of those Internet things. No offense meant. As far as the last statement, it comes from previous experiences in your state. I hope it isn't a matter of course for Texans to throw beer bottles at cars simply because they have Colorado plated. 🙄🤠

We're good, Ron. Have you ever shot heavy Corbon .357 loads in a J-Frame? It actually peeled skin off the web of my hand. Probably a lot like the 44 Mag in the 329. I will admit that Coloradans can be Xenophobic about Texans. Although that has faded a bit with the invasion of the Californios.
