I hate clips. I have had a M1, a SKS, and 1895 Austrian Mannlicher. The Mannlicher was the easiest to load, those Austrians sure built nice stuff), the M1 was a bitch. The SKS stripper clips never worked for me. Good thing I wasn't in a hurry. I carry revolver reloads in a pocket rubber clip that you just peel each round into the cylinder.

although in william 's case, I'm sure he's only messing. That said, I'm a pedant so I like to be correct. What's a clip then? William was very polite about it. On a gun forum several guys would have savaged you. I am glad to see that Paddy, Ron, and Charlie all recognize that my "magazine" comment was intended as gentle humor. As a properly-raised Southern gentleman, I would hope to possess both the vocabulary and social skills to avoid hurting anyone's feelings.......

Just my opinion....
The revolver is for experienced shooters, typically a shorter sight radius, a bad grip can do a number on Finger(s)...all of that can be overcome, but I have always thought it silly to see a gun store employee hand an inexperienced woman a snub nosed revolver. True, most gunfights happen at close range, a revolver certainly has it's place but to be proficient, one must practice and shooting a revolver accurately at 25 yards is typically harder than a striker fired sub compact.

Smith and Wesson J-frames are the simplest handgun out there. Women and men love them, especially as a first gun. I got my wife 3 different autos before she begged me to get her a revolver. First wife was scary good with a 1911, but Karen is better with an 1858 Remington.

Last day of vacation time...come Monday, I will be singing the blues. Paddy, when you hear politicians and media folk report on a shooting, as they refer to "clips" it is out of sheer ignorance, when they refer to a semi auto as full auto, when they suggest that a semi auto is only useful for military, when they refer to a gun based on aesthetics as an "assault weapon". The Colt M4 that I have, the standard magazine holds 30 rounds, but it is referred to as high capacity. When these terms get used, typically a gun owners ears perk up, and a desire to correct...I do it all the time to my TV. I say out of sheer ignorance on politicians and media, but they have been corrected over and over again, but they refuse to change their narrative. When someone like you refers to them as clips, it is understandable, but understandable when someone tries to clarify it. Yea, my eyes have been opened for sure. Ignorance has a lot to answer for.

I agree. My friend brought a snub nose .22 to camp for fun and I hung a coke can from a branch. I emptied the thing at 20' an didn't hit it once. Reloaded and closed in every couple misses util I missed with the last shot at maybe 7-8'. I told him to pawn it. Haha

Understandable, It just comes down to the culture around you...Had I grown up in NYC, doubtful I would have ever been around firearms, and my worldview would be shaded by illegal uses of the gun, and that only the police need them.

I grew up on 1911s, and I have never seen one jam except for highly modified target pistols, and that was because they were shooting wadcutters. I have had 5 and shot a lot of others. I always shot hardball, which they were designed for. The first revolver I ever shot was a cousin's Peacemaker that had been tuned for target shooting. First shot I blew a limb off of it tree because the trigger was so light. The next 5 were in the bullseye. The next was a S&E model 58 41 Magnum. Nastiest gun I ever shot. I could never hit anything with a Smith revolver, but dead on with their 39,41,52 Master and 59 autos. Most accurate revolver for me is the Remington 1858 BP 44. My 44 Mag snubbie shoots great groups, but it's 5" high and 7" left with Specials Magnum rounds are closer to the point of aim, but it's not worth it in a 27 oz gun. The NAA is very accurate for a tiny gun with a 1.125" barrel.

Ronv69 My Taurus Raging Bull 44 mag is great. It's so heavy and that long ported barrel... Almost no recoil. I can rapidly empty it one-handed with decent accuracy. It would be a great option for a disabled Hunter who has trouble manuevering a rifle. I love 1911s. Iconic, but the one I had was very picky. And you're right, the ammo makes a world of difference. My Colt AR plinker chambered in .22 will jam every other round if I try to use Thunderbolts or Winchester 333s. I have to buy the CCI mini mags, but it cycles like a dream with those.

That Raging Bull is a great gun for hunting, but I got tired just looking at one in the store. I wouldn't mind having one in 454 Casull for a once a year toy. Edit : I saw that they made it in 480 Ruger. That would be more fun than a barrel of rattlesnakes!

Tried a friend's Ruger Super Redhawk Toklat model in 454 Casull. A light version of the Super Redhawk for carry in Alaska. Shot two rounds of Buffalo Bore. Not sure what the weight was, but that was memorable. Wrist felt like I sprained it the next morning.

Just a photo of the same model I owned (all my guns were stolen about 20 years ago and I've only been able to replace one so far).

I could really shoot that 1858 that was the same size, grip and sights. I think I could shoot that one just as well.
