1976 Vega station wagon. My dad offered to sell it to me for $300.00. (This was in 1985). The landlord offered Dad 1 months rent for scraping the house to get ready to paint, and that was $300.00. So if I got the house scraped, I got the car. I pulled a Tom Sawyer, got my 3 younger sisters to help scrape the house for free, and drove off with the car. I drove that Vega to Alaska later that year.

My first car was an 87 Celica GTS. I bought it for $400 from a guy my mom worked with. Thanks to poor decision making (dui) in my younger days, I sold it to the junk yard after about a year. I liked that ugly little thing. It was the first far that I tore apart and put back together. Since I had a suspended license, I had nothing else to do with it. The air in this one worked... ice cold. Fast forward SEVERAL years thanks to terrible decision making... So imagine me cruising around with straight exhaust, windows-down, and Megadeth blaring. I got a lot of looks. Haha College... I can relate, my current car is a 95 civic that someone had the wonderful idea of redoing the exhaust so its loud as hell. I listen to heavy rock/metal most of the time and my ac doesnt work. I paid $400 for this one. A week later I paid $420 for 4 new tires. I'm going to drive this thing until it falls apart. Insurance is cheap and I dont have a car payment. Also, both are 5 speed manuals, which I prefer.

My first car was a 1979 Ford 5.0 Mustang Cobra like the one pictured below, except what's green on this one was light blue on mine. Wow! I bet your insurance was insane.

2012 Jetta Sport that I shared with my brother. I moved around and didn't really need to drive much whilst my brother moved to the city and wanted a smaller car. It had great acceleration and cheap to maintain. A very uncomfortable backseat though.

I had a 74 Ford LTD 4 door with ratchet straps holding the rear bumper on. It cost me $100.00 in 82 and lasted me until I could afford a new truck.

Eight year old 67 Mustang convertible. I lived in the Detroit 'burbs so it was a typical Detroit cancer mobile with rust holes through the quarter panels and a body that was about half Bondo.
I had a blast with that thing.

In 8th grade, an orange 50cc Garelli moped. The other kids pedaled home. Suckers. Then in high school this Suzuki GS300L. Wasn't really a 60mph bike, more like 55mph, but I used to drive 73 miles to Tim's house in the winter. He'd put all four of his oven's burners on when I got there, where I would huddle for twenty minutes. Great feeling of freedom, but the ice was scary (and it was better than the Pinto my sister got).

1978 Lincoln Town Car in baby-poo green. One of my high school girlfriends' mothers had a 72 Town car, probably the same color. It had an AM radio/8 track player in it. Ha! It also had a huuuuuuge back seat. She would let us use it to go on dates. If she had any idea what went on in that back seat...

1978 Lincoln Town Car in baby-poo green. Had a silver 76 and it had the most comfortable seats (front) of any car, even my 76 Eldorado. Mine had a Cassette I think.

Later on I got stuck with a 78 Ford wagon, about the worst car you could imagine for a guy who likes MGs and Miatas. Automatical transmission (yuck), got about two gallons per mile, just awful. Mine was brown too, just terrible. And I definitely wasn't pickin' up no chicks in it.

My first was a 1965 Land Rover 88 hardtop. This was 1967. Someone stenciled the Zig Zag man on the two front doors and the back door. This, along with the 8-track tape player with mounted bookshelf speakers and a couple of Jimi Hendrix tapes, drew every cop in northern Virginia and southern Maryland. Still, the "Magic Bus" hauled many Trippers to many scenes. Eventually, clearing a trail out of Altamont in 1969. You know, I think a couple of US Park Police are still searching for it.

75 Coupe Deville I got from my grandfather. Now that's a beauty. The Blues Brothers would be proud.

A 1967 MGB. Always carried half a case of oil in the boot. I also mastered the fine art of jump starting with it. Fun times when your in college. Had one of those in college. It spent more time in the garage than it did on the road. But the girls liked it.

That's a pretty sharp look'en wagon, black out the back windows get some Cragar mag wheels and lose those Van pipes and I'd be picking up babes all day.

You notice that most of the newer vehicles are station wagons with updated names.

Don't even see wagons anymore at least none that look like one. I'd give my eye teeth for a "Special Delivery". Well......my eye tooth.

Not sure I'd even want to go out with a girl that liked that car If a gal is more worried about what you drive then WHO you are, I wouldn't even let her get in.
You should have seen some of the rust buckets I had over time, blowing clouds of blue smoke, windows wouldn't roll down and, the only thing that worked in'em was the driver and the cigarette lighter, and I always had girls.

My first car was a 1953 split window VW I bought from a neighbor for $250. 00 back in 1965 . It had a 25 hp motor and those semiphore style turn indicators in the door post. It also had the canvas sun roof that was a bear to open in the cold as the canvas got real stiff! It was a kind of sand tan color with a two toned tan/brown cloth upholstry. it had an 80mph speedo but I was never able got it past 65! Had that sucker till I got back from Nam in '70 when I got a newer '67 Volvo 122S which was bigger and faster ! That old bug was one of the easiest cars to work on I ever had ! Saw one fully restored in the tan color as mine was at a bug show here 2 years ago and they were asking $20,00.00 for it ! Wish I'd kept mine !

I've driven lots of VWs, but none less than 45 hp. It would be hard to conciev, but I had a Suzuki car around 1970 that had a 25 hp 2-stroke. It was sad. Scoutmaster had an Isetta that was in that hp range. Beetles and Ghias topped out at 72. Friends bus was doing good to hit 65. Lots of joy associated with those cars, though.
