What was your first car? 1952 Ford 4-door Mainline- OHV-6 cylinder-3 on the tree column shift. Bought for the princely sum of $35, licensed and running.

'68 Chevy Impala 2 door coupe 327 4 bolt main..It had an air conditioner that could freeze the nose off of an Eskimo. I loved blowing offf the rice cars when the secondary kicked in....Pegged somewhere past 120, it was one heck of a highway cruiser. I had Cragar aluminum mags on it and low profile wide tires....my girlfriend at the time, now my wife had a flat, and the California Highway Patrol officer that came to her aid, happened to have the reporter from Highway patrolman magazine along for the ride. He had a hell of a time wrestling that wheel out of the well. Wish I still had the car.

'60 VW "bus". 1st of a few. Outfitted the back with bolted to interior wall bunk, mattress, supply of sheets etc. Served me well when wintered in Lauderdale after the golf shop closed for the season. 4 on floor, no syncromesh 1st gear, had to do complete stop before putting in 1st. 0-60 in about 1/2 mile, somewhat downhill with decent tailwind. No way on x-pressways. Maybee 50hp at best. Heater? possibly if kept the rpm's up. Did have more than a few "encounters" with wimmen-folks as a side in it. Could lock ourselves in the side doors. Curtains etc, quite comfy & private.

Ed, did the floor of that VW van get hotter than Hades?
I took a trip over the Santa Cruz mountains in the back of a 60’s VW van... we looked like a bunch of Mexican jumping beans... I expected it to burst in flames.

VW Bug with surfboard racks on top. That thing took me from Santa Cruz to the lower tip of Baja. The summers of the 60's were meant for surfing safaris.

Got my license in July of 1976. Mom was happy to get me to the DMv on my 16th Birthday. She wouldn’t have to take me to work or pick me up anymore. 1969 Buick Skylark fire engine red with a black vinyl top. Hand crank windows. But it had a/c! Had a v8 and only 54k

A 1967 MGB. Always carried half a case of oil in the boot. I also mastered the fine art of jump starting with it. Fun times when your in college.

1990 Jeep Cherokee. Drove it through high school, college, and my first two jobs. Would go about anywhere, 20 miles a gallon with a 4.0 L straight 6. Almost 300,000 miles before I gave it up. Been missing it lately

Your cars are all so cool. I had a 1998 Saturn SL2... two quarts of oil and twice as many stops at the service station a week to fill the tires.
What a beautiful racket that thing was. Muffler fell off. Sounded like a prop plane landing when I pulled in. AC was broke and I had to roll the windows down in summer. Because of the muffler I had to blast my music to hear it. Because the speakers were blown, Megadeth was the only band that sounded okay through the stereo. So imagine me cruising around with straight exhaust, windows-down, and Megadeth blaring. I got a lot of looks. Haha

1965 Rambler Classic 4 door sedan, sky blue 199ci straight 6 3 on the tree. 29 mpg. AC would frost up the outside of the windows in July. Big, comfortable seats. Not my dream car, but it was great transportation. I bought it from the family when my uncle died, $650. I drove it for a year and gave it to my sister who drove it for another 10.

‘61 Dodge Lancer, slant six with three on the floor. Not much top end but you could plow in first gear. More bondo than steel with a number of eccentricities. Never had to lock it as most folks couldn’t get it started. It was a great college car because I could rent it out on weekends to guys without a car. $5.00 a night; good beer money for me and basic transportation for them. It did require a training session.
