It was more of a putdown of that dadgum car. I would have absolutely let a girl in that car.

Any greybeards remember the first Honda car sold here around 1972 or 73 ? Very small, it could almost fit in the trunk of a Detroit car of the time.

My first car was a 1979 Ford 5.0 Mustang Cobra like the one pictured below, except what's green on this one was light blue on mine. Wow! I bet your insurance was insane. I had a "good student discount", but yeah, it was pretty high.

Didn't recall them debuting earlier.

My first car was a 1953 split window VW I bought from a neighbor for $250. 00 back in 1965 . It had a 25 hp motor and those semiphore style turn indicators in the door post. It also had the canvas sun roof that was a bear to open in the cold as the canvas got real stiff! It was a kind of sand tan color with a two toned tan/brown cloth upholstry. it had an 80mph speedo but I was never able got it past 65! Had that sucker till I got back from Nam in '70 when I got a newer '67 Volvo 122S which was bigger and faster ! That old bug was one of the easiest cars to work on I ever had ! Saw one fully restored in the tan color as mine was at a bug show here 2 years ago and they were asking $20,00.00 for it ! Wish I'd kept mine ! Had one like it except convertible. Mine would only do 45mph so I sold it. Come to find out the carburetor cable had slipped, the guy tightened it & it ran like a champ. Ticked me off.

Besides, I knew how large my pocket book was and it wasn't growing and made due with what I could afford. In all my years of driving I never spent anymore then
$700 (76 Eldorado) on any vehicle till now, 2006 Ford Ranger cost me 10 grand and it hurt dearly to pay that much. Maybe I'm just cheap.

I think so. They certainly had the CVCC engine. And the repair bills that went with it. We swore to never own another Honda car after those. I had the base model and the wife had the Deluxe 5 speed. Nothing against Honda motorcycles though. Can't beat tjose.

$3,638 for a 1975 AMC Pacer X with all the bells and whistles. So you're the one! Had a boss with one of those and he took a lot of grief for it. I don't think they were bad cars, but all that glass sucks in Houston, even in winter.

My first car was a 1958 Rambler Nash.......Red & White in an out. Drove okay, needed a quart of oil a day. No leaks, burned it up with a trail of smoke.

In my senior year of HS (‘76) I bought a ‘68 Malibu, canary yellow w/black vinyl top, 307, 2 speed hydromatic transmission, 20 thousand on the dial, $700. In 4 years I put another 150k miles on it. For some reason it ate starters, but I learned to carry a spare starter and got to where I could change it out in 19 minutes just by feel in the dark. Totaled it on I-10 outside of Winney, TX. Did a 360 in the air and landed back on 4 wheels. The frame was,...... rather twisted. Awesome car, wish I still had it.

1961 Corvair, Monza Spyder, new, shifter on the floor, biggest engine model, In the mid 19960s my cousin had one of those with the turbo charged engine. Fast and fun car. I always liked the Corvair. A neighbor here has one.

This about the double of my old Rover:
4 cylinder overhead valve engine. 4 speed non-synchro tranny. Full stop to engage 1st gear. Double clutch between 1st and 2nd or downshift from 3rd to 2nd. Top speed on level ground with no head wind, 55-60 MPH. 4 wheel drive which could be engaged on the fly as the front axles were always engaged. Simple car, rugged and reliable.

That first car was my introduction to serious economics. Delivered a morning paper route and mowed lawns all summer, saving my dough. New tires were $20.00 more than the purchase price and at 15 years old I couldn't even drive it (legally).

My first car was a 76 Malibu, purchased from a relative for $650.
My favorite vehicle was a Mazda pickup. It finally died with 235K on it.
