I've seen that in quite a few places. Not the nicotine ban, but the stores pushing cigarettes to all those day care kids after a long day of taking naps and playing with blocks.
Back to being serious though, there are a few businesses in this town that do nicotine tests. Its BS if you ask me, even if I was a non-smoker/snuffer.

Technically, Chewing could entail Nicotine Gum. How's that for a boatload of irony?

Honor Health, which is growing steadily in the Phoenix area, requires a nicotine screen along with the usual drug test now. As always ... bring your own pee!

Wait til the insurance companies start with this testing and uping your premium rates if you use anything with nicotine in them.

Or come to Houston where everyone is so hard up for help that they don't care as long as you can get to work and speak a language.

My employer has had this policy in place for about 10 years now; new hires get nicotine tested along with your initial drug test. It apparently keeps the health insurance costs down for the company. You never get tested again though after beginning work, and I don't think there's any rule against starting smoking afterwards. It's easy enough to abstain for a week or two before my yearly labs, just to be safe . I do think this'll be more and more common going forward though, since insurance companies obviously give employers a cost break for doing it.

That's crazy. Although, if they have stopped the random tests and only test on suspicion, it might be easier to keep up the pipe in the privacy of your own home.
That said, the nannies are getting worse.

I posted that link here when it first started, and they added the patch on the page. As a way of getting revenue to his site and to pay the bills he allows ads that he has no control over. There happened to be an ad of a book penned by a prominent political figure, and a patch member took deep offense, and it was decided not to allow cross posting to the briarreport.' I believe that the offended patch member has been long gone...Justin made the decision a the time.

These so-called ‘laws’ are reminiscent of totalitarian states, I.E. The Soviet Union and Nazi Germany. Many willingly accept these ‘beneficial’ laws. My grandfather was a 1st generation American, a WW II veteran and a cigar smoker. He along with millions of others gave(many gave their life) so we could be free. Free to choose - to smoke, to marry, to do what they want. What the heck is happening to our country ?

Frog in slowly warmed kettle, Sam.
I once had a discussion with my son, and I complained about an issue where I said that it was a loss of individual liberty, and I was dead set against it. He acted as if that was a thing that could be let go of... He then explained that his thinking had been conditioned by so many other things in society that had been regulated “for his own good”.
There are a lot of people that just want to control others, they tend to gravitate towards politics and governmental bureaucracies, the people that do not want to control others and just want to be left the hell alone do not gravitate towards them jobs.
The founding fathers would be amazed at how far we have drifted from our foundation.
Since the conversation with my son, he has evolved through the maturation process and understands the issues better.

If I'm correct, didn't Hitler do the same thing in Germany? And Stalin I believe followed suite with many rights being taken including life. That's just two that everyone should know but, there were and are many more.
"Sic semper tyrannis!"
Are the American people going to just stand by while the liberties and rights are slowly taken away? The time for talk is over I believe, and the people need to do something, AS A WHOLE. This is a job for everyone. Real tired of hearing, "Well it doesn't affect me so why should I care" crapola. Take our government back and shove a certain state out to sea. Sorry, but this really makes me mad, mad enough to be step'en over corpses. And it should make everyone just as MAD. Our country was created through war for FREEDOM, Rights and Liberties and sadly now it's gotten soft and lazy and our motto is "Oh Well" now it seems. What has to happen to finally bring us ALL together to fight for our god given rights to be free from Tyranny?
Oh the taking of rights start small so in hopes we don't notice too much when in reality it's just the beginning of taking everything away and making slaves of us all. Laugh if you want but, we'll see who's laughing when it comes to pass. And Lord I hope I'll be gone by then and not have to see it.
I'm very passionate about this country we live in and the rights of all people and if I could do it all myself we wouldn't be having this conversation, we'd all be free and to pursue happiness. Of course there will always be those who think there happiness means more then anyone else's and make others lives miserable but, they wouldn't run the country anymore. End of rant.

I hear you Ron, I stay active and informed as much as I can...I will be attending a conference to strategize exactly on this issue for 3 days next month...sad that so many mega rich billionaires, through their foundations and "benevolence" while alive are more often than not invested in promoting the nonsense legislatively, and through supporting campaigns to heat the frogs with.

Most support there own big business which there lies most the problem with America nowadays, big business controls America and Americans in believing there free and believing that the laws passed stifling our rights is the opposite and for our good. What Hog Wash and a slap to our faces for thinking we're all brainwashed fools. Good for you Charlie, please let me know the plan when you return sir.

rdpipes and trailbossIt appears we’re all on the same page here. Charlie, my son is 9 1/2 and starting fifth grade next month. It’s amazing how much more is being taught today than when I was his age. But, that also means the anti-smoking, your representatives know what’s best for you agenda, is taught. I want my boy to decide what’s good for himself. I frequently find myself explaining why it’s so important to look all sides of issues, so he can chose for himself. As you’re aware it works. Ron, our founding fathers would be baffled. When governments restrict liberties, we move away from a republican form of government. As I wrote earlier, the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany are perfect examples. People say it cannot happen here, it can. There are other examples .... France post 1789, Vichy France, the Roman Empire are just a few. This has nothing to do with religion, skin color, sexual orientation, etc. Like Ron wrote, it’s about people being apathetic. I’ve rambled enough for one day, I’m going to play with my son now.

RDPipes is right, this is all about corporate takeover of America. They've got people brainwashed into thinking it's about politics or philosophy, so that's what gets argued... but it has zero to do with politics. The politicians don't care if you or I smoke; they don't care anything about us at all. We're just numbers. The corporations (insurance companies in this case) are the ones who care. Smoking causes many health problems which require treatment, and that costs them money (less so pipe smoking, but it's probably hard to distinguish type of tobacco use via tests.) THIS they care about.
The corporations own the politicians.

I’m shocked ... All this time I thought my health insurance company cared about tobacco use because it could affect my health! I can’t believe some huge corporation would care more about their bottom line than my personal health. I’ve been deceived for years!!!

The company I work for is contracted to a company that is nicotine free as a condition of employment and they random test. You are free to work or not. It sucks but the market is shrinking and is ultra competitive. I've said it for years I'd be more worried about your wife, employer or insurance provider getting you to quit smoking than the government.
