I got arse whoopins more than allowance! I got it at least once a week weather I needed it or not. My mom was the one that got us the most. If dad got you you were dead where you stood. Both of mine got it good once before they were five and I haven't had to touch either one after. My boy had a guy trying to start a fight with him and he told him he wasn't afraid of him and he only feared death and me because the second one could cause the first.

I remember being smart enough to never want a another paddle ball toy. It was really just a paddle for mom to beat me with in all honesty I believe it was designed for just that purpose. Of course when I grew up we had all metal fans with three pieces of wire to guard the blade so strict discipline was a must unless you wanted children with no hands. In fact everything around me in growing up the late 60s and 70s was designed to kill small children or at least dismember them.

Allowance is what you got for doing your chores to teach you the value of money. Much harder than screaming on the floor by cash register because you didn't get that new toy. That would have earned me a beating within a inch of my life..........in the store and when I got home.

Unsure why it's called "residential" maybe because it's just scarier in hopes of keeping peoples curious fingers out of it. Pictures are of the blade after restoration and the complete fan before. Haven't updated my photos for awhile.
Oh! And I found no blood stains or flesh on any of the blade wings.

Oops! It seems that's not the blade off the fan pictured, the blade is off another Emerson "Residential from the 20's. Really need to update my photos or at least label them properly, sorry.

Child safety things really screwed up "survival of the fittest."
"Go ahead, eat that 'weeble wobble,' you're the one that has to crap it out!"

Had a pretty stupid call today. I had an oven that wouldn't heat and a walk in cooler door that wouldn't close. Now mind you the kitchen manager has worked with this equipment for 29 years and she reminds me of this every time I have to do a job in her kitchen. The cooler was the first thing I looked at. She showed me the door wouldn't close by repeatedly shoving it. I stopped her and asked her to look at it and tell me what was wrong. It won't close she told me. I opened the door and pulled down on the spring loaded closer and closed the door. I showed her this a few times before.
I checked the oven and removed the front cover and turned it on. The burners wouldn't fire so I checked a couple other things and happened to see the thermostat wasn't set. I set the stat and the burners fired. I turned it back off and called her over and asked her to start the oven up. She turned the switch on and said it still wasn't working and walked away. I called her back over and asked if the oven would work if the temperature was set. She agreed and I set the stat and it started heating. Her boss was less than thrilled to be billed for stupidity.

Honest to God Walt it's closer to 75%. If it wasn't for stupidity I'd starve.

That Josh, he is a pretty good fellow!
I believe he does not get the recognition he deserves.
So, here is an opportunity to give him support, at least what we can do here.

Honest to God Walt it's closer to 75%. If it wasn't for stupidity I'd starve. My buddy used to conference me in on calls when we were in college and he was working the tech support desk at a Best Buy. Duuuuuuude... at LEAST 75% stupidity, and I mean award winning!

My late father was for a number of years a Maytag repairman, really he was, and not the loneliest man in town. He had many stories of repair calls as you describe. My favorites were the “I just plugged it in and charged for the service call.” Lesson learned; I always check for power before digging deeper.

Tripped breakers, or tripped gfis, have paid some of my bills as well. Even after asking on the phone if they checked that first. I don't go to work for free.

Like resetting the power strip.

I had a guy call me out after hours once after I tried to make sure it wasn't something stupid. I asked if the cooler was plugged in and he responded if I thought he was a effing idiot. I got there and it was unplugged. After I showed him that I asked if that answered his question if I thought he was a effing idiot. Some of the easiest money I could make.

Raise your hand of you ever stuck a bobby pin in a 110 outlet at age five. Guilty as charged.

My son who was into tools, at 5 got his moms cuticle pliers and while I was reading the newspaper crept around my chair and cut the lamp wire, here’s the scene Small explosion, arc, no light and little boy off like a rocket, fastest I’ve ever seen him run, cuticle pliers had a jagged gouge in em, Son was not hurt, he dropped the plan of being an Electrican.

When I was little I put my finger between the prongs on my nightlight and plugged it in. Not smart.
I still get shocked at work once in a while. Some things never change

I used to stick my finger in light sockets for fun when I was a kid. Explains a lot of what's wrong with me.

I have a pair of Craftsman sidecutters that have a notch in them that is perfect for stripping Romex. I was in the attic wiring for a ceiling fan at the in-laws house when idiot FIL switched the breaker back on. He was always doing stupid shite like that. A piece of metal was burned into my GLASS eyeglasses right in the center of my cornea.

I have never stuck my fingers in a socket. I have wired wall plugs hot and other stupid stuff. Worst shock I ever got was when as a 12 year old I was playing with a 512 volt photo flash battery hooked up to a large capacitor on the table next to the bed. When I reached for the alarm clock the next morning it blew me out of the bed. Second worst was a Lawn Boy with a short.

Ouch^^^that was a close one...should have locked him in a closet when you are doing them a favor. I made my wife watch him while I finished my last wireing job for him. He went outside and moped until we left. I should have known. As a long time pre-press worker. That is the kind of behavior I came to expect from pressmen.
