What do the coffee snobs think about Keurhig? ( sorry about the spelling on that ) Glad I don't have one anymore. I thought that no matter what brand of Kcup you bought they all tasted the same. Would rather have one than nothing at all except instant, but.....

I suppose if you dump a pile of coffee mate hazelnut/vanilla/monkey poop it doesn't matter what you brew or how the coffee tastes. I roast high quality beans and it costs about $6.50 a pound. That will make 8 liters of coffee in a French Press. So choice between high quality and 6 liters of coffee vs 4 cups of crap-brew k-cups.

Four or five scoops pf Chock-Full-O-Nuts coffee and a little ground cardamon into a blue enamel pot. Pour boiling water on top. Stir. Steep. Pour a little cold water into the pot to settle the ground. Enjoy.

No aero press love yet? Man, Capresso ground Kicking Horse 454 through the aero press is just terrific. You got there just before me... I use an aeropress because I don't have any other method, but I can't fault it either. Kicking Horse coffee. My wife loves the stuff. We started drinking it when I spent a couple of years working in British Columbia (it comes from the Canadian Rockies region). t's now available in the States. Great stuff.

I don't know the exact costs of my espresso shots, but I like to think I'm "making" 3-5 bucks on each shot.

That thing is an abomination and a giant rip off if look at the price per cup.at a $1.49 a cup for shite coffee. I suppose if you dump a pile of coffee mate hazelnut/vanilla/monkey poop it doesn't matter what you brew or how the coffee tastes. When we buy per case, it works out to maybe 50 cents a cup. We’ve had everything from Bunns (main problem being after the coffee sits on the burner for an hour it sucks) to everybody having their own press (that was a messy cluster). So for my office, which is going 24-7, the Keurig seems to be the least of all evils. Granted, the flavor profiles of different brands run from burnt piss to barnyard mud, but hey, it appears to cause less arse chapping than any other system, so that’s what I’m running with. I keep an electric kettle and an aero press in my office........

I insert the K-cup into the Keurig, select 10oz, extra strong and then this is the important part, I press the start button.

I'll boil it in a sauce pan too if needed. Drip makers just don't provide the oomph I like in my coffee.

JP a tip for the Bunn, throw several pennies on burner pad, coffee container sits above direct heat and it doesn’t have that burnt taste, did that at Exxon, and some low life would steal the pennies, kept a big jar of pennies in my locker.

The Keurig cannot make good coffee. The water doesn't get hot enough and it doesn't stay in contact with the grounds long enough. It is only better than no coffee at all. Nescafe beats it by 2 lengths.

That’s a smart idea. Even better tip. Don't turn the burner on at all. If the coffee is cool when you want a cup, heat it up in the microwave. You'll have a nice fresh cup of hot coffee without the burned taste.

That is a plan. Reheating coffee is the main task assigned to our microwave.

Nescafe beats it by 2 lengths. I completely disagree. I drink French press coffee, Turkish coffee, Cuban coffee, percolated, Mr. Coffee, fresh ground etc. A good K-cup is just fine. Instant coffee does have a coffee taste. That's all though.

I have never had a k-cup of coffee that didn't remind me of the old coffee machines that dropped the cup sideways and then dispensed the coffee all over your hand when you tried to straighten it. We used to have a single cup maker that used pods made from filter paper, but they seem to have been Beta-Maxed. They made much better coffee than the k-cups though.

We used to joke at work about one of the guys filtering the coffee through his dirty drawers, he made it so poorly. He was banned from operating the Bunn.

Thanks guys on the Bunn tip. It makes a lot of sense, because with a commercial brewer, the coffee does not stay in the pot long enough to get the burnt taste in a commercial application. My wife burns through some big cups of coffee, so I think that the copper penny trick makes a lot of sense for that on a normal weekend morning. With a more leisurely pace, with a long morning of sipping coffee, reheating makes sense.

Here's another option: A Bunn that makes the coffee directly into a thermos that has a pump. Stays hot and fresh for quite a few hours. After that 15-30 secs in a microwave and you're in business.

Them are nice, for the commercial grade ones, be prepared ro dig deep in the wallet, but they are really nice. I was attending a church awhile back that should have bought one... every Sunday for between services fellowship they had the huge percolator buffet style, and it was a huge waste of coffee, that to my palate was bitter and rank... they would have benefitted greatly buying that setup. I got my VPR NIB with 2 pots for a C-note on Ebay with free shipping.... I think the seller was bummed.

When in Portland, I make my coffee by ordering a latte from Stumptown. I've had good coffee in many places, but Stumptown's espresso roast wins hands down!

I've had a Bunn for 20 years, and I never use the warmer plate because I hate the burnt flavor. I gotta try this.

It was adjusted to 160 and it didn't burn the coffee for at least a couple of hours. The pot never lasted that long.

Was in Germany a few years back on business. Europeans are big on instant coffee. They have quite a bit more variety in that department than we Americans do. There were some pretty good ones. Far better than the run of the mill instants we see in out markets. If some of those were available here I might be tempted.
