I got up this morning but there were no Donuts as is normally found so I looked around and found three boxes of cereal that I do not like so my wife's version of what is good and cereal is not the same as mine.

Normally, I make a bean dish for New Year's Day. Sometimes Hoppin' John or Navy Beans and Franks, even Lima Beans. Unableto get out this week to the store, so I am scrapping the pantry for ingredients. Wishing there was an old ham hock in the freezer!!!

I found out today that Mushroom Barley soup takes a lot of mushrooms!...1 pound of white, and 1 pound of Crimini...simmering on the burner, and we will have jalapeno cornbread on the side.

It is always good to get stuff out of the freezer...freezer guidelines for different things are a good rule of thumb, but properly packaging can really help lengthen the lifespan. I used to always buy he Reynolds freezer paper and it is increasingly hard to find and when yo do the prices are ridiculous. I recently went to Smart and Final and a 1000ft. roll of 18 inch 40# butcher wrap was less than $20. Nice with the grandkids too...roll out a long piece on the floor and hand them the crayons.

I agree about Reynolds Freezer Paper. I use that and a plastic bread bag wiht ties.

I made pot roast with potatoes and carrots and onions, wine, garlic, etc in the Instant Pot. Pretty good. Also had a pan of cornbread, blackeyed peas, cabbage, salad, bread pudding and a Philadelphia Chocolate Hazelnut no-bake cheesecake. That's all.

OK I tried the beef wellington recipe.
I paid scrupulous attention to the details because I do not know which details are the important ones.
As far as I can tell mine differed only in aesthetics. Not a perfect cylinder, and not an even layer of mushrooms. Oh and my crust decorating looked pretty juvenile. More like a chicken had walked on it or something.
I did get the timing right, the meat was medium rare, and the crust was just crisp enough.
Everyone loved it.
The hardest ingredient to find was the Parma ham. But I did find it.
A bowl of Billy Budd Blonde after dinner.

Kicked off the new year with a pork & sauerkraut dinner with sides. It's a Pennsylvania Dutch tradition here in Pa. Had a bottle of Argyle sparkling wine to accompany the meal.

A bowl of Billy Budd Blonde after dinner. I used to make that for Christmas. Usually the tenderloin is topped with a duxelle of mushrooms and pate. I have not heard of using Italian Ham in this but sounds good! That is an ambitious project and I am glad it worked out.

Soup from a dented can no problems other than seeing green spots since eating it.
