“ . I know the place you visited but cannot remember the name. ” Haus Murphy’s is the place that we ate at. John, you got to SF far ahead of me, I never heard of Schroeder’s but with so many fantastic restaurants when I was there, I had so many “favorites”. The house of Prime Rib is still going strong serving prime dry aged beef. They are on the short list if I find myself there. Compared to what's out there, I consider German food health food. It is a little rich but most of that stuff is for special occasions. Well, my elderly German neighbor lady used to roast a pork butt for Sunday dinner for her son and for me. When it was done, she would dump a half pint of sour cream into the pan juices to make a gravy. Served on spaetzle with rotkohl or sauerkraut. That was a little excessive. Good, though.

When we are out that way, we like Friedhelms Bavarian Restaurant in Fredericksburg.

There is a German Joint way up in Taos Ski Valley with ski valley prices for rich tourists. Sadly, the Krauts and Swiss who used to staff it are all gone. replaced by people who would not know a Rinderbrust if it bit them or them it! I guess they can learn but on someones else's tab.
There is a place in Taos that occasionally offers Jaeger Schnitzel and it is authentic. Clearly, a guy who was paying attention while in school.

THis morning, I might mash up some Peruvian Mayacoba beans with tomatoes, cheese, green chiles. Add a fried egg and wrap the whole mess up in a whole wheat tortilla and call it BREAKFAST.

Up to the 70s there was a steak house in Lagrange where all the staff was German speaking. It closed up when the new highway 71 bypassed it. They had the best steaks and some German food. Especially good German bread .

Tomato soup and peanut butter sandwich for lunch. Something my wife says she grew up eating. That is interesting. Usually tomato soup for me calls for, a shredded cheddar or old cheese sandwich. Peanut butter I will have to try.

I guess the joke is on me.
Last week a neighbor dropped off a few pounds of fresh elk meat in a bag. Today I made up a marinade, my own version of La Lechonera Mojo Criollo. Turned out the meat was a strips with tissue attached. Scraps from butchering the carcass. I peeled what I could and threw it in the marinade. I was hoping it could be cubed for kabobs on the grill but it ended up thin strips and bite sizes. I will pan cook it and maybe add a chile or other gravy. Serve on rice or such. I hope it comes out ok. I do not want to be ungrateful but scraps? Different strokes for different folks, I guess!
Gave a bunch to the dogs. Marbles turned up his nose. Not sure he has had raw meat before? Izzy enjoyed hers.

My food slicer arrived and of course I had to try it. Sliced up some garlic summer sausage and sharp cheddar. Grilled the sausage until edges were crisp, dropped the cheese on them, topped a wheat cracker with the combo, plus a slice of pickled jalopeño. ¡Muy bueno! I think I’ll keep the thing.

Is this a circular blade slicer as often seen at a Deli counter? They are very handy, even the home versions without a motor.

Yes, a circular blade. It's a Cuisinart, with motor, from Amazon, for a very good price I thought. At least compared to some of the others I looked at. Pretty easy to clean, too.

Fried chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy, corn, cottage cheese, corn bread. You are killing me!!!!!!!!!!!!! Has there ever been a time when Fried Chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, corn, corn bread were not welcome? Perhaps while perched on the edge of a Black Hole Event Horizon when gravity crushes the life out of one. Nuclear attack? Other than that, I cannot think of such a moment.
