Got the freezer working. Enjoying a cool Old Fashioned, Jameson as base. HERESY! ... but for the record, what I’ve got from the freezer was whiskey stones.

Fell this morning while working outside. Tripped over a branch and pulled something stretchy in the back of my leg. Sore as Hell.
So, a Martini is now indicated. Bombay and Cinzano vermouth, fortified with Everclear, shaken over ice. A garnish of pickled garlic, an oil-cured black olive, and a pickled green bean.

Have slept poorly the last couple of nights, which is unusual for me. Having a good, stiff Buffalo Trace Kentucky Bourbon.

I am lazier than thou, would have not been as fancy & concentrated on Bombay & Ice.

I mostly am walking through tall grass and brush and cannot see where to place my feet. So, down I go. If people took better care of their irrigation ditches, this would be easier. People are lazy.

Just received a parcel of fine spirits. Didn't wait around and made myself a Vieux Carre even if it's barely after lunchtime.
Equal parts rye, Cognac, and sweet vermouth. Bénédictine to taste (half/quarter of that) and a dash of Peychaud's and Angostura bitters each, mixed over ice and strained. My favorite from the "Big Easy" classics, Sazerac is a close second. What a great drink, I really do love my little luxuries.

Looking forward to the next trip to NO. We were supposed to go next month. 😕😷

Apart from a couple of knowledgeable bartenders, people don't even know it. It's all Jägermeister and Captain Morgan here: nothing wrong with that, but I do prefer to stock my own bar. 90% of the time, I sub the cognac for bourbon or Irish though and use a dash of absinthe liqueur instead rising the glass with the real thing. Maybe you'll reconsider making yourself a couple while waiting on that trip.

The weather lied. It was sunny and still, and about 42°. I took a chair, went outside and fired up a cigar. The sun immediately went away and the wind came to keep me company. But I stayed and endeavored to persevere, enjoying the cigar inspite of it all. But now Im cold, and the arthritis in my knees is aching. So Im having a big mug of Turkish black tea with honey in it to warm up.
First World problems. (shrug)

Years ago, the wife and I went to the fanciest hotel in Taos for Sunday Brunch. We ordered Ramos Fizz cocktails. We might have well as ordered XFEMJF. No fuggin clue. I had to go to the bar and ask if she had a book of recipes? Most decent bars do. I looked it up and showed it to her. Then she said the kitchen would not give her an egg. How to deal with this kind of stupidity?

I over-did it today. I was fine until, after an early supper, I decided to limb and clean up a spruce tree that is a full 4' thick through the trunk, and had a tangled mess of limbs all the way to the ground. I have an excellent Stihl chainsaw, but it is a big felling saw with a 20" bar. I horsed that thing around over my head for hours, until just before dark. That's when I just gave slam out.
I've earned this not-so-short glass of Buffalo Trace while reading P.H. Capstick until I fall asleep. Which will be here shortly, Im bettin'.

First drink in a long while is a dram of Balcones Rumble, from the founder of the Balcones Distillary. It is like nothing else. Distilled from wildflower honey, turbinado sugar and mountain figs, 95 proof. I have had the bottle for a long time and take a sip every couple of years.

Will, my 18yo, kept saying "Dad, let me do that. That chainsaw is awfull heavy for limbing overhead." All that did was poke my pride and make me stubborn. Ive got plates and screws in my anatomy that shouldnt be ignored, and he knows that. Thats why he bucks out any new colts for me these days. But you know the saying, "There's no fool like an old fool". I slept good though, and Im alright this morning. Just a little sore in places.

Another drink, Bombay Sapphire and ginger ale over ice. Bombay makes nice gins. I brought home a bottle of Plymouth Gin. My favorite. Usually, it is priced too high for me. On sale this week. I also enjoy Plymouth Navy Strength- 114 proof. That is good with a little water.

I guess I will drink it up before restocking with Tanqueray. It's far and away my favorite.

As for Bombay, I prefer their regular gin although the Saphire is good, too. Just now, I am enjoying a Pink Gin made with Plymouth. Just the thing. I learned this afternoon we have two COVID 19 cases in our tiny hamlet. Both old guys and I am worried for them.

I have heard that is an excellent Gin. From Islay, is it not? Yes, Bruichladdich distillery. Most of their offerings are on the pricier side, but very decent. This gin is no exception. It sometimes gets called out for being average and overpriced. It's priced fairly for what you're getting (including the very nice bottle) and I think the criticisms have to do with that the fact that it's rather subtle. Like the name suggests, heavy on the botanicals, but also deceptively smooth while still packing some strength. It's not Beefeater and you gotta use it for what it does best: varied and nuanced taste. If the plan is to pour a bottle of tonic over it then I can understand why would someone find it average. Kinda like getting a blend heavy on black cavendish and then complaining it tastes mellow and lacks a real punch. I like it neat and in simple cocktails where you want to get the herbal/floral qualities out.

A generous measure of Plymouth Gin with two tiny ice cubes and a healthy slice of fresh ginger.
Charcoal chimney smoking. It is full speed ahead.
