Packing some of the newly minted “Grandpa’s Choice” in a James Upshall long Canadian. Let’s see how it holds up to what they used to put under a Peterson tin. Edit: Damn, this thing's a biter. I shall dub myself the Tamer of Aromatics and tackle this bowl. A little bit more on the tobacco: straight off the bat I can tell this is not the original blend. It reminds me of the Auenland line of tobaccos Vauen has; there's a certain synthetic edge to the tropical fruit flavor which is more pronounced than in the original. On the other hand, it's much easier to taste and not so bad on its own. All in all, the first 15 minutes are decent, but they did a way better job copying the English blends than this one. Whereas Connoisseur's Choice was my favorite aromatic, this will most likely end up as a gift to a friend who enjoyed the likes of pineapple flavored Auenland specials.

Butternut burley in a Comoy Golden Grain Canadian...first pipe I bought back in 1961...been a great smoker for all these years! Thank you Walt! Comoy's looking like you've been taking good care of it, methinks. I am partial to Canadians, it's my favorite shape. Tonite, I'll be packing My Own Blend Tyr in a Ser Jacopo sandblast. Good thing I have friends in Denmark who bring me the great tobaccos available there everytime they come round.

BrunoT said..."Thank you Walt! Comoy's looking like you've been taking good care of it, methinks." Love that old Comoy that I've had since the 60's...I've given away most of my old Comoys to a good friend AJ who loves them. The first one I sent to him was my Blue Riband...a small apple that he fell in love with....since I have had it for 50+ years, I thought a new home for it would be in order...like to keep the pipes going from one to another so that they can give great smoking pleasure to all that have them. Presently B.B. Alamo that has been loaded up a wonderful pickaxe made by a good friend years ago who had the brand known as Briar Spirit Pipes.

While doing a bit of yard work I smoked a couple of bowls from my "remnant" jar, which smoked like an English/oriental blend. Not sure exactly what all is in the jar, but it is worth smoking. Smoked both in a Nording Compass. It is a perfectly lovely day in SW Kansas, blue sky, no wind, and in the low 70's. I did my sermonizing on the patio while smoking L.J. Peretti Cuban Mixture in a Grabow Riviera Pot and WC Deluxe Crumb Cut in an Avanti Rock Briar #1015.

Today was a beautiful sunny day in Pinehurst.
I found my way out to the garage and spent a little time polishing up the ol Harley.
After I was done, I decided to ride it down to the gas station and fill er up.
Afterwards I decided to go down to the local B&M and have a couple of cigars.
This evening my neighbor pinged me and invited me over for a couple of more cigars (and Scothc of course) ;-)
Later this evening I made my way up to the mancave, had a bowl of MM965. Then some Margate.
Now it's some 2010 Penzance in a beautiful old Barling Bent Bulldog.
Still Sippin Single Malt Scotch of course. ;-)

Carter Hall in new Savinelli 320. It smokes very well, and there is such thick briar here, its not hot for being so short. I did replace that triangle filter with the provided open sleeve. That filter restricts the draw to a rediculous degree. I have really big hands, and this smooth, hefty chunk of round, polished briar is very comfortable and natural for me to hold. I never even knew that was such a factor in enjoying a pipe I've got a 320 that looks just like that one. Neat pipe for sure.
