My brother found some of my Dad's old photos and has been uploading them to Facebook, thought you might like to see me and my family. I was 14 1/2, my brother was 12. Having been on a steam train, I was familiar with the brakeman job, lol swimming (or rather, tubing) in the creek

Actually it is the New River Gorge bridge which is on US Route 19. At the time it was the longest span arch bridge in the world, now I think it's been downgraded to longest arch span bridge in the Northern Hemisphere. But ours was first and the WV Department of Highways was darn proud of it. I hope my brother finds some photos of when it was being constructed. Dad worked for WVDOH, he started out as a drafter then moved into Engineering Operations Section, he was a technician. My brother and I were DOH brats and knew a lot about roads. My brother has worked for DOH for probably 24 years now, and I know about 15 different ways to get anywhere in and around Charleston and can navigate by map (I can even refold a road map correctly!). Hubby introduced me to topo maps, lol. Occupational hazard, I gripe about poor/incorrect signage and sloppy road construction sites. US 19 does hit I 64/77 at about Bradley, WV which is several miles south of the bridge. I64 and I77 join in Charleston, WV and run together thru Beckley then separate a bit before Beaver, WV. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_River_Gorge_BridgeConstruction Photos www.nps.gov/media/photo/gallery.htm?pg=3530179&id=11454B8A-155D-451F-6762C96012DBF797

Yup, been over that bridge a hundred times heading East. Isn't that the bridge they used to close once a year and let people bungee jump?
EDIT: Answered my own question.
