This is unreal..Everyone is scared of the virus, and they're buying hand sanitizer like crazy .I went to 3 stores this morning before I finally found some.I bought the last 5 bottles he had.He said he hopes he will get some in Tuesday but he''s not sure about it.It's getting weird around here.I Think I'm going to hide under my bed for a few weeks..I'm not making light of this situation but there's a run on some things and some stores are beginning to have problems getting enough of certain things..People want to avoid going out more than they have to if this thing hits.I bought an extra supply of food today..Tomorrow I'm going to do the same with bottled water..I know I'm probably over reacting. They say though that it hits old men the hardest... That's Me

I think they are blowing this way out of proportion...you'd think it was the dreaded ebola. It's a damn virus not bubonic plague.

Media is hyping it up big time, wife went and bought supplies just in case. Never hurts to be somewhat prepared.

I don't know 1500 dead already and countries much closer to that area of China are damn sure scared. If one seeks out news outlets from India and other countries closer in they paint a different picture than the US news media. I cant help people who drink Corona or take surveys while intoxicated.

From what I can tell, it's not much worse than flu, and those who have died are people who had a high likelihood of dying anyway.
The symptoms are mild, from what I can tell (for most people anyway - for those who died, death would probably be considered severe).
But the fact that corona sales are down is the icing on the cake for me.

It is them crazies buying up five bottles at a time! Took the words right out of my mouth!
I look at it this way, if I'm gona get sick I'm gona get sick, I wash my hands regularly and I don't go licking toilet seats and hand rails.
So if its my time to die, its my time, bring it on but, make it quick okay.

Influenza has a mortality rate of around .1% and the novel coronavirus is around 2%. So it is a little more dangerous than the flu, being about 20 times more often fatal. Transmission rates are similar with an R0 of 2-3 (one infected person will infect 2-3 other people).
The fact that new cases are already declining in China (assuming that's good information and they really are) is pretty good news; hopefully the outbreaks elsewhere will burn themselves out quickly as well.
One of the great mercies of this is that, unlike previous pandemics like the Spanish flu, it does not target children. Children, in fact, seem to fare better against this than all other groups. Adults are more at risk, older adults even more so, and particularly immunocompromised older adults.
Being in the airline industry, I'm getting daily CDC briefings on this. Considering my airline is based in Seattle, the hotbed of the emerging U.S. outbreak (and I live near there), I figure better than even odds that I'll end up contracting this and bringing it home. I just pray it doesn't hit anyone in my family hard.
As I write this, I can tell I'm coming down with a cold. Very minor symptoms and no fever, so most likely just a cold... but an unpleasant feeling, given the timing!

One of my doctors told me, a few weeks ago, that hand santizers are alcohol based. Alcohol is not much good against viruses. Fine for bacteria. Hot water and soap is what is wanted for viruses.

According to the government, were all going to die of mouth and lung cancer anyway, because we are a bunch of evil smokers, so why bother being cautious?

After 9/11 people were asking how something of that magnitude take place with the loss of life... a pastor friend of mine broke down the numbers, not to minimize the loss of innocent life, but over 53 million die each year globally, over 6,000 hourly.

Still not enough food for everyone...China kills off (JMHO) 2,000 just a drop in the bucket considering their total population.

Thanos was right! If this kills off all of us old folks, the young know-it-all will have to find someone else to blame. Maybe Bloomberg will be spared so he can teach them how to farm. 😜ðŸ¤

I have pneumonia several times each winter since 2013. I was hospitalized in 2017 or 2018 with it. This year, I had a wopper of a cold but no Pneumonia thanks to both vaccinations aginit.
I suspect that in a year or so we will have a vaccination against this Cornball 19 or whatever it is called. All we have to worry about is that it mutates into another form more virulent and too soon.

For the record, I prefer to wash my hands before I pee. I know where my junk has been, and God knows I don't want whatever was on that bathroom door handle touching it.
